Seeing a lot more confusion lately around DTV, visa exemptions, and border runs. A lot of people focus on getting approved, but the real issues often come later — expiry dates, 90-day reporting, passport validity, re-entry timing, and extension planning.

That’s usually where people make mistakes.

What has been the most confusing part of your Thailand stay so far?
Answer summary
Many expats in Thailand express confusion regarding various visa-related matters, particularly around the DTV (Digital Nomad Visa), 90-day reporting requirements, re-entry timing, and passport validity. While some find the 90-day report process simple and quick, others struggle with timing and changes in personal circumstances, such as address changes or needing a new passport. There is a consensus that the basic rules are straightforward once understood, but issues often arise as expats navigate more complex situations after their initial visa approval. Discussions highlight the importance of proper planning and understanding of the Thai immigration system to avoid common pitfalls.

90 days report took me the whole part of 3 minutes and was free

What's so confusing?

It is so straightforward

90-day report if you're in the country for 90 days

Have to leave before 180 days

That's it

90 days report is easiest, quickest

180 days requirement makes sense. One can easily take 1 day trip once every 6 months

If you make a new passport, just carry both

Entry has been never denied to anyone with DTV, specially workcation.

Obtaining the DTV was quite difficult but as it lasts for 5 years it was worth it. My passport only had 15 months so I renewed it before I applied. So many ppl didn't do this and it has caused issues for some. I was on marriage extension before the DTV but now I feel free, as the annual renewal was always stressful.

Frankly speaking...

Having to read questions like this one again and again.

As they have been answered by forum members again and again.

Fair point — a lot of the basics do get repeated. But it’s interesting how often the same issues still trip people up, especially once they move beyond the initial visa approval.

Are you a Thai Visa Agent?

Not an agent — more of a long-term expat building tools around visa timelines, reminders, and planning because I kept seeing the same problems come up over and over.

YellowCaterpillar8799 then you can go to immigration and queue. Is your time worth 300 baht?

300 baht is for sure worth it but the one time I’ve had to do it, I was in and out. My place was close to immigration so was no drama.

YellowCaterpillar8799 Where do you live in Thailand? In Chiang Mai, it’s very quick and easy to do the 90 day report in person.

Anonymous participant 608 Every visa group has its mix 😄 but sometimes the boring comments are where the useful lessons are.

I wouldn't mind but most of their comments are their opinions. And they think they're Immigration Police trying to enforce them 😆

The confusing part for me is why can't I get a "Season pass" for ALL national parks instead of paying 100-200 baht PER point of interest. Madness 🤣

Agreed — once you understand the process, it’s straightforward. The confusion usually comes from timing, address changes, or first-timers trying to figure out online vs in-person.
