Hello everyone, I hope you’re all having a good day. So after lots of research, I’m thinking that buying the Thai gold privilege card is the best route. 5 years, don’t have to keep doing any border runs…Seems like the easiest way to go.

Any downside of it? Other than the 900,000 baht that is.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Thai Gold Privilege Card offers a 5-year residency option without the need for visa runs, making it an appealing choice for expats. However, potential downsides include the significant initial investment of 900,000 baht and potential disqualifications due to past immigration issues, such as overstays. Additionally, age and income requirements may affect eligibility.

If you have ever had an overstay fine, there is a very good chance you will not be approved for the privilege visa.

Since you passed 50 years, you could apply for a Non O-A one year visa which gives you up to two years almost continuous stay in Thailand. You’ll need to re-enter one time close to the one year expiration date. Then you’ll just need to show proof of funds in your bank at home.

You can also apply for a 90 days regular Non O and do yearly extension of stay without leaving Thailand. You’ll just need to put 800K thb in a Thai bank, but the money is still yours and the fee for this visa is just around 150 usd (in Norway) and yearly extension of stay in Thailand is 1900 thai baht.

very helpful Jan! Would you perhaps know - I’m 55, my wife 46, if I apply for retirement visa, do you know how it would work with her being under 50?

Your wife can be a dependent on your retirement visa. Only one of you have to be 50+.

your wife can piggy back on your extension of stay, no additional funds required. Once your extension of stay is done then you get hers done.
