@everyone

It is now confirmed that travelers arriving in Thailand are receiving 30-day visa-exempt entry stamps, with the change taking effect from midnight today.

Please plan your stay accordingly.

As a reminder, we offer door-to-door 30-day extension services in Bangkok for 5,000 THB, allowing you to complete your first extension without needing to leave your residence.

If you have enough time to apply for a 60-day Tourist eVisa before traveling, this is generally the better option if you intend to stay in Thailand for longer than 60 days.
Answer summary
Travelers arriving in Thailand are currently receiving 30-day visa-exempt entry stamps, effective from today. They are advised to plan their stay accordingly and consider that a door-to-door extension service is available in Bangkok for 5,000 THB. For stays longer than 60 days, applying for a 60-day Tourist eVisa before arrival is often recommended.

Thanks for all resposes, after calling the bank they will not let you open an account from another country, even though its an online bank with no branches, makes no difference if you have an aussie phone or not.

i have recently been notified that my bank is being taken over by ANZ and i didnt want to go with them although it seams that its my only option as all banks need you to be in the country to open an account.

Jennifer Read yet Australian banks report you to the ATO as living n overseas

Happened to me ING.

This is in line with the US tracking overseas income for tax purposes, which became multinational

Unsure how westpac work to it

so my aussie number also fails once in a while and stops receiving smses. Try resetting your network settings if you have and android. sometimes that helps. Also once it starts working, try enabling RCS so that you can receive smses through mobile and wifi data.

I don't have it myself but friends pay a subscription for a UK number for this exact reason, I'm sure there will be an Aus version

By default my foreign SIM connects automatically to what it thinks is the best network, but I sometimes find that SMS messages do not arrive like that. So I manually select a different network on the phone, and that works. I generally go for the slower networks (3G or 4G) even though my phone has 5G.

Don Smith why we would an SMS go to a foreign number?

Does your home bank have your foreign numbers?

Longy Oi Some banks use my Thai number, some my UK number. Some have both as a backup. Both numbers need to work everywhere in the world and I find that sometimes the automatic network selection works for calls but not for texts.

Using an Aussie phone will cost a fortune using international dialing.

Willy Lusch Australian banks won't deal with text messages. Banks will send you a security 'no reply' confirmation text to an Australian number. That will only work if you have international dialing switched on. And the receiver pays both ways. One still needs to open the bank account in Australia.

You need 100 points to open a bank account in Australia. I doubt you'll be able to open one from Thailand.

Change your number in the banking app to your Thai number and just tell them youโ€™re on a holiday. Or even to a friend or relative in Australia that you trust to do whatever it is you need done

John Villinger I raised that TWICE with NAB via complaints ... Couldn't even buy a $10 bus ticket when o/seas .. Why can't they send 2 factor codes via email or WhatsApp, but they haven't improved their functionality.

I moved my Australian number to an Esim with Amasim. If you set up a basic account without any data or call it costs au$15 per year and incoming texts are free. When I travel to Australia I just add some data while there.

I carry 2 phones. 1 Thai phone for local banking needs, and the other for my foreign country also for banking needs. Itโ€™s tragic why so many countries still require a local phone number for OTP.

Jeffrey Tan you can get dual sim phones here.
Don *******

Jeffrey Tan Thai phones generally have two SIM slots specifically to avoid this problem, and both SIMs are connected all the time for receiving calls or texts. Saves a lot of messing about.

If you are making a call or sending a text, the phone asks which SIM you want to use. Very simple.
