TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation reflects on the challenges and joys of traveling in Thailand during the pandemic, particularly the emotional weight of flight cancellations and the quarantine requirements. Several participants discuss their plans and experiences related to returning to Thailand, missing family, and how financial burdens impact their decisions. The community also shares insights about travel logistics, including difficulties in flying domestically and suggestions for alternative routes to Bangkok. A mixed sense of longing and gratitude permeates the discussion, indicating that despite hardships, the love for Thailand remains strong among expatriates.

The scientists' warning comes as it was announced a new coronavirus variant is under investigation by Public Health England (PHE).

Experts are analysing instances of the B.1.621 variant found in pockets of the UK.

To date, 16 cases have been detected, although the majority are linked to overseas travel and there is no evidence of community transmission.

B.1.621 has been found in other countries including Colombia (325 sequenced cases), the US (264 sequenced cases) and Spain (196 sequenced cases).

There is no evidence it causes more severe illness or renders the current vaccines on offer any less effective

wish there were deep pockets, just grandparents sacrificing all to see children and grandchildren..

I have noticed that the gov't response, worldwide, to COVID19 (& every other crisis since day one) has been a positive event for people who have cash. Their lifestyle has barely been affected at worst and has improved for most (work from home, private plane charter, special visas, etc, etc.).

Just saw your comment! my reply: I know. If you were uber rich, you could take a private plane (airport closed? then seaplane). But, even if you were rich..the rich cannot be blamed. In my world view, some people will succed more than others. But the gov't shouldn't enable them via outright corruption or more commonly.... make stupid, unenforceable rules that don't work.

we sacrifice a lot just to see our children and grandchildren, they live around the world and in the US, we go without things we want just to spend time.. Our children in Thailand are missionaries and are not able to leave, so we come to them..

it's definitely not fun, we just have retirement and sacrifice a lot to be here, thankfully things are priced low.. Hotel is $40.00 a day and tickets were $750.00.. Will never find that again..

@Kathy ***************
Oh, Ok. I thought you were going back home without seeing them. Sure, stay in Phuket as long as you want. Regarding trains in Thailand, I've never taken one, but my buddy did and he said it was great Thai Trip Update: I've made it as far as the gate at JFK -that's farthest I've got in over a year!

thank all great reply . None of us know how long it going to last . Im lucky ive found great wife and mum . And money isnt her one love .

@Adrian *******
Wow. Cool. I'm more of a "'hide from mum' & prefer strippers to wives" kind of guy. More important.... much much more is that my reply was meant to incite a revolution toward a future with "no gov't"...anywhere. Oh wellI, I'll try again later. Take Care & enjoy.

@Kathy ***************
Oh I see, you brought him with you -excellent planning...with low tourist numbers, its probably hard to find a good man on the beach. Your flight commented terrified me, but then I realized that you are referring to domestic flights. You must somehow make it to Bangkok. I heard the train is great..if its running. Good luck.
