What are the current rules for entering Thailand under the visa exemption, and how can I apply for a DTV if I'm not in my home country?

☀️I’d just like to know about the free visa thingy as it states online free visa for certain nationalities and it’s for 30 days. So does that mean you just rock up at the airport and just go through?

Also can the free visa be extended or does one have to apply for actual tourist visa to get an extension ?

☀️Second question the DTV do I need to apply online or at the embassy? I’m not in my home country reason I’m asking.

Sorry if I sound dumb or retarded but I’m genuinely asking because the info I get is a back and forth and keeps changing.

TLDR : Answer Summary
This conversation discusses the current status of the visa exemption for certain nationalities entering Thailand. The general understanding is that travelers arriving may receive a 60-day visa exemption instead of the previously standard 30 days, which can be extended by 30 days once. Additionally, queries about the application process for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) while outside one's home country are addressed, suggesting that applications can be done online or at the nearest Thai consulate.

You can extend once for 30 days but I believe depending on when you come it’s still 60 days visa exempt and you can extend that but it is going back to 30 days and DTV are pretty much all done online

I think you mean the visa exemption. It was 30 days and currently it’s 60. It applies to many nationalities but not all.

Check on your embassy’s website to see if it applies to you.

Contact a Thai embassy closest to you for accurate info .

Probably won't be any references to thingys lol

It's not a free visa it's a visa exempt entry, currently you get stamped in for 60 days and can extend it one time for an additional 30 days. They're talking about returning the 60 days visa exempt back to the 30 days it was previously.

As to the DTV you can apply for this via most Thai consulates. You apply online but using the consulate that serves the location you are currently in and remain in that location until the process completes

thanks. What about kids? If the parents get a DTV are they automatically on the same DTV or do kids have a different type of visa ?

@Pamela-Joy *********
the kids get their own DTV based on the parents

There are no stupid questions just stupid answers. Like you I find it a bit of a mine field.

Yep, turn up and get a visa exemption which can be extended one time.

As for another visa type you will need to go to the official web site.

thanks. One more question can you apply for the DTV while in Thailand?

I don’t think so. Let me check. This is from Siam Legal site. There are a few requirements to meet

you can't apply for the DTV while you are in Thailand. They will ask for proof of location (it doesn't have to be in the country that your passport was issued). We sent our receipt from our Airbnb, but they asked for boarding pass (Bangkok to Da Nang, Vietnam) and a picture of our arrival stamp. If you include all this when you apply, it will make it easier 😊

no you can't. You can only apply via a Thai consulate so pick which one you want to use, travel there and apply online then remain where you are until the process completes

@Farang ********
could you extend more than once when it was 30 day visa free please?

No, only once.

basically you get a visa exemption and before it expires pop down to the immigration office complete the documents and slap 1900 baht on the table you have an extension. Before it expires, leave or you will over stay an get a black jack on your file.

At the moment things are a bit in the air. You can leave and return and get another visa exempt. It's called a border bounce. But that is not the intention of an exempt visa . So you are at the mercy of the IO. People have been denied entry.
