TLDR : Answer Summary
The current state of tourism in Thailand seems mixed based on various comments from expats and locals. Some report a noticeable decrease in tourist numbers, particularly in places like Pattaya and Chiang Mai, often attributing this to seasonal lows and external factors, including geopolitical issues and economic concerns. Conversely, others maintain that it's typical for this time of year, stressing that low season fluctuations are expected. Many observers note that while there are fewer tourists and customers in businesses, areas like air-conditioned malls still appear busy. Other factors mentioned include environmental conditions, such as severe pollution and high temperatures, affecting travel plans. Overall, experiences can vary significantly depending on geographical location within Thailand.

Just as these answers clearly show, it depends; and runs the gamut.

Take people (especially) who earn their livings "selling".

Either "business is great, couldn't be better" (from those who don't want you to think you're going to get any discount)

Or, "business is terrible" (from those who want you to feel sorry for them and buy something). 🤣

I’ve been travelling here for 15 years now

It doesn’t feel quite so welcoming anymore and I’m not sure why.

All people like me want to do is live a simple life and spend money and drink a few beersšŸ‘

I would say tourist is down vs this time last year. I have spoken with locals and they agreed. The working girls also seem very aggressive when walk past. I assume night life spending is down.

Toursim down? I don't know who would spread such information. Thailand is as mass- and overtouristic as it was the past years before COVID. It is getting harder and harder to find spots not adversely affected by this overtourism. Luckily there is some spots left if you get off the beaten path. Oh COVID times, you were a gift for authentic travel.

šŸ˜‚ what part of Thailand are you asking about?

Huge country, 70 million citizens and an extra 10-30 million workers from other countries. Add on all millions tourists šŸ˜‚

If you look on all those YouTubers movies then it’s kaos šŸ˜‚

If you ask me who live in Bangkok (suburb) then no, actually saw 2 last week šŸ˜† turned around and thought, you must have got of at wrong station šŸ˜‚

I can tell you now in April (Songkran) will be crowded at allot places.

Tourists and specially people who want to see or use prostitution will be at same places, no matter year or month. If not, then no it’s not noticeable with allot tourists.

We do go on vacation to like Pattaya, Jomtien, HuaHin aso but stay at hotels that is more expensive, actually see more Asians then problem tourists.

It is low season. of course numbers are down. same as every single year this time of the year… but the media will surely blame the war now. they always find excuses why the high season isnt dragging on for 12 months 🤣🤣 in jan/feb we already saw that they will never hit their target numbers in tourist arivals this year….

There are no seasons now Dany it just gets slightly busier at Christmas and new year, and songkran, apart from that it’s probably 60% of what is was pre Covid

Richard Broderick there is definitely seasons… i live in krabi and here you can see a steep decline over night in march. every year. its very very noticeable… and after songkran its literally dead… on Koh Lanta many places even closedown until november. every year.

and in the north you have a burning season where its horrible.

and then you have rainy season for many months as well.

so to say there is no seasons is pretty wild.

and numbers are not 60%. check your facts. also: one exceptional year pre-covid cannot be the standard

Im in Chumphae which is a small province 1.5 hour weat of Khon Kaen and I've noticed less utes on the road so it would be interested to see when Songkran hits as the main drag normally is packed with cars . This year I feel it will be more of a walking street
