TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on obtaining a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) for Thailand while currently in New Zealand, expressing challenges in securing a remote job. Comments from the community suggest avoiding visa applications in New Zealand due to high fees, exploring soft power options like Muay Thai or cooking classes, and considering applying from neighboring countries to reduce costs and improve chances of success. Additionally, recommendations for services that can facilitate the visa process are mentioned.
The application fee there is higher than some of our packages, which already include an activity that helps you meet the soft power requirement, and we handle the entire process for you.
Instead, we suggest you travel to Thailand first, then apply from a neighboring country, or use a service like ours to make the process smoother.
If you would like to use our DTV services (we have successfully assisted hundreds of applicants), you can email our team at

Just a thought would insulin dependency qualify as a soft power option?
only one, along with a letter stating I'd be having ongoing treatment and why I was doing it here instead of Australia, as it's only a medical centre and not a major hospital I had to produce the centres business registration certificate as well, I don't work, so I got my husband to write me a letter of support stating he financially supports me and his job and income as well, he has the spouse visa attached to my one
I moved from the UK to NZ and stuck it for 13 years. At first, it knocked spots off the UK but then it got so incredibly expensive that I ended up moving to Thailand last year. I earned 1500 dollars a week knocking my pan out by working very long hours. 60% of my remaining wage after tax went on rent. After petrol, power, water and food, I was skint every week. No wonder people leave. Presumably they are all young too,
Australia used to be the best place to live, but not no more, I totally agree, I'm an Australian that grew up in Napier NZ, I moved back to Australia in 2002, it was great until the mining boom happened then everything started slowly increasing in price, by the time covid started it got ridiculous, hubby and I sold up just before Christmas and have been here in Phuket for 2 months now, although he still works FIFO while I stay here, best decision we have ever made
Well done! Honestly, I've never looked back. What with the high cost of living in NZ, the poor wages and the number of stoners and those on P I had to work with, I sometimes wonder why I stuck it out for so long. I should have moved here earlier. Phuket is beautiful. I'm in a quiet part of Na Jomtien. 😁
that's why I left NZ for Australia, plus I had 3 young children and I wanted better for them, which I achieved, they all finished school and got good jobs
Thanks, definitely is time for us now, the kids come visit, plus we have video calling to stay in touch and see them, it definitely is beautiful here, much better quality of life we're having now
As it seems we both have fewer years in front of us than we've had behind us, it's time to maximise and appreciate where we are at in our lives both in terms of geography and peace of mind. Yay for us! 😂😂
I'm in Hanoi waiting for mine, it's supposed to be fastest, easiest, along with info, can stay in Bali. 310 USD . I chose a Muay Thai school in Chiang Mai , it makes process much easier, faster I've been told.
1 question. Okay so i sign up for 6 months kickboxing maybe even go to a couple of classes. After the 6 month course is over am i good to carry on with the visa or do i have to sign up for more kickboxing
you get 5 years, can stay for 180 days , go come back as many times as you want , get 180 days. If your there 90 days have to report like any visa. They said I paid for 365 days of lessons.

bht, fee for visa was 320 ish, pretty cheap. They'll let you spread Muay Thai over a year or more.
I’ve seen posts saying 400 USD to apply. That’s about 13.5k. There’s probably some place on earth that charges 15, but as I don’t know what each individual embassy will charge it was an approximate figure.
yeah i thought that but 1 question. Okay so i sign up for 6 months kickboxing maybe even go to a couple of classes. After the 6 month course is over am i good to carry on with the visa or do i have to sign up for more kickboxing
The visa when granted is valid for 5 years. At this stage it appears that no one is checking whether you actually do what you signed up for, but perhaps in the future they may. There is nothing that states you must continually do courses for the entire 5 years.
