Hi guys, I'm heading to Mukdahan tomorrow evening to cross to Savannakhet on Monday morning hopefully for the multi entry non O based on marriage.

Do you have any tips on hotel close to the bridge on the Thai side and hotels once in Savannakhet?

Also a double check of the paperwork required for the 1yr multi non imm O based on marriage to a Thai.

Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is traveling to Mukdahan to cross into Savannakhet for a multi-entry Non-O visa based on marriage and seeks tips on nearby hotels and required paperwork. Comments include hotel suggestions in both locations, mention of specific visa requirements at the Savannakhet consulate, and responses confirming the ease of the visa application process there. Most importantly, several comments clarify that proof of funds is not required for the visa application at the Savannakhet consulate.

All submitted and pick up tomorrow at 14:00 hopefully.

Lack of experience doing this, but we arrived to the bridge at about 7:40am and got touted by a pick up truck/taxi to take us to a different office to take a picture of my daughter for her border pass the bring us back to the bridge to pass immigration and he assisted/escorted us through the immigration desks etc, took us directly to the consulate, assisted showing us where to get the form (as I didn't have mine printed) waited outside the consulate for 45mins and then dropped us to the hotel.

Now sat enjoying a beerlao whilst the missus has her afternoon nap ๐Ÿ˜ก

Calm down, you're fine, you're not the first and won't be the last foreigner there getting a year-long, multi-entry Non-O.

It's one of the easiest consulates to deal with for that visa.

Enjoy your time there, quit stressing..

Hi all, so I'm in Mukdahan now.

The hotel informed us that the bridge doesn't open up until 08:00.

Is this one of those scenarios that I'd have to be there super early to get across in time to make it to the consulate in Savannakhet?

What do you recommend?

So arrive at 07:45. Cruise through the checkpoint. Tuk Tuk to the consulate hand in the paperwork before 11:00 and collect the next day. Simple as that?
Damian ******
No dont stress...i always see people running to get to the consulate...its takes a bout 35mins from thai border to consulate and about 5mins to lodge application. U need to have a photo to give the laos border entry as well.

The nice thing about the 12 month multiple entry Non Imm O for Marriage at the Thai Consulate in Savannakhet - no financial info needed
Somkit *********
Along with house book, wife ID, updated martiage cert etc as mentioned, I have always had to have funds 400k no less than 2 months old in my bank with a letter from the bank stating as such, photos of my wife and me at home, a mud map how to get to our house.

Tod Daniels Thanks a lot for you reply! in fact I saw some recent reviews on Google Maps, regarding the bank statement (might be for tourist visa). That's why i'm not very sure

, When applying for the year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai at the thai consulate in Savannakhet Lao or Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam you do not show proof of funds.

@Steven **********
were you asked for the bank statement or financial proof at last? I am also considering applying visa there
Somkit *********
My apologies, I am easilly confused! When applying both in and out (perth/trat) these were requested. Apologies for any confusion I may have caused. Please ignore my previuos comment, cheers!

@Somkit ********
, are you confusing getting a yearly extension of stay at the immigration office inside the country with getting a year long multi-entry visa from a thai consulate in another country?

The thai consulate in Savannakhet doesn't require any proof of finances, no bank letter, no photos, and no map. Those are things required to get a yearly extension at the immigration office

When you say updated marriage cert... You mean the one with the rose border right?

Agree with
@Handy *****
to stay in the old part of town near the church. There are some nice restaurants, cafes and a few bars. Getting to the consulate is easy. Tuk tuk from your guesthouse/hotel to collect visa, wait and take you to bridge 100 Baht (one or two people). I stayed at Joli Guesthouse and it was excellent.

Stay near the old church and night market. Many places to eat and drink...๐Ÿ˜Š

Mukdahan - Kiengpiman is a quality place to stay. Moderate price. Helpful staff

The Avalon Residence in Savannakhet is the best - they will take care of you. There are cheaper places but not worth the savings
Damian ******
The Avalon is a good hotel..there isnt much to do in savannahket. Need wifes house book and id card copy and marriager certificate. There are some people u can pay 100 baht to and they fill out the paper work for u out the front of the consulate.
