TLDR : Answer Summary
A newcomer to Bangkok with a family is asking for suggestions on better areas to stay and advice on extending their visa. Respondents suggest various local attractions suitable for families, areas like Sukhumvit for better accommodations, and provide guidance on how to extend the 30-day visa at local immigration offices. Recommendations for activities include visiting parks, shopping areas, and cultural sites.

We stayed almost 2 month around Lumpini area. Walkable to big shopping malls and there are metro and bts stations.

With kids we loved:

- Children discovery museum followed by the JJ/Chatachuk market as they are opposite to each other.

- The Ancient city/Muang boran is awesome. We were there before covid, dont know how is it now. You can rent bicycles or golf cart.

- The Net playground at LaSalle avenue mall in Bagna. It bit further away but very worth it if you can visit perhaps the Bangna mall where they have kids cinema with playground inside the movie saloon. 👍😊

- My daughters and my favorite, Yunomori Onsen and Spa in Sathorn. You can almost spend the whole day there walking around in “kimono” between the Onsen, the relaxing room and the Japanese restaurant. 🙏

Coming in visa exempt, you go to IT Square Laksi immigration to extend your visa in Bangkok.

We are staying on the riverfront at the Sheraton. We stayed 2 weeks at the Hilton Millenium in May. If you take the river boats up and down the river you can get to temples, AsiaTech, and the BTS line. There is life in the area just past Saphan Taksin. The streets have night markets, food stalls etc. For more, you need to get on the BTS line and go into the city, but use the river boats to visit the many places that are river accessible.

how was the Hilton? I have always wanted to do a couple nights there.

as a Diamomd HH member, it tells you everything that we are now in the Sheraton Orchid just across the river. We have stayed in Hilton's most nights on a 7-month Asia tour and the Millenium was one of the weakest.

Good to know.

Riverside isn't great for tourists in my opinion - far better to relocate to Sukhumvit where you can walk to pretty much everything you would want. Find a hotel / apartment within a 5 minute walk of Phrom Pong / Asok / Nana BTS and you will be spoiled for choice

Bless Hotel and Residence, not far from Phrom Phong BTS. Is a good base. We found it handy for local restaurants Thai and Western

A park over the bridge at the BTS.

the Japanese food around Soi 31 is superb and very authentic. Great massage at Healthland at Asok. Join in Tai Chi in Queen’s Park at dawn or dusk. Movies at Terminal 21 or The Emporium. Arthouse movies at a tiny cinema on Soi 22
