URGENT HELP PLEASE ‼️

I’ve applied for a DTV as a sole trader in Taipei. This is the second round of requested documents. We’ve provided the bank statement twice, but the bank doesn’t clearly state that it’s in AUD, so we’ve provided a currency conversion extract from a reputable Australian bank. As for work, I am a registered sole trader and have provided my Australian business number.. what more could I provide?

Thank you in advance
Summary so far
The user is seeking advice on additional documentation needed for a DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) application as a sole trader, after being asked for further evidence twice despite providing a bank statement and Australian business number. The conversation highlights concerns regarding the clarity of the bank statement in regards to currency (AUD), proving income as a sole trader, and the distinction between permitted remote work activities.

Looks like that embassy dont allow you to do trading. Need another embassy. Also most banks can give you notarized documents

yes, I had no idea the Taipei office would be this strict, but I suppose the nature of my work is a bit complicated. I’ll ask the bank if it can be notarised. Thank you!

They are asking for 1x statement of your bank and want proof you have an abn and company setup

Sorry to say but it’s actually quite clear they don’t accept investing as a remote job. Consulting would be okay if substantial. I think having multiple consulting contracts would likely be enough and invoices to do with those but best practice would be a US company where you hire yourself and pay yourself a salary from said investments/consulting

there seem to be a number of issues.

In Australia any australian bank will have $ in front of the number. I can almost guarantee this as I have and had accounts with numerous AU banks. Can you get the Currency conversion from the same bank that holds the account?

One issue might be that it is a joint account. This could be a problem as the other person might be able to operate the account so could take it all and you are left with nothing. This might be the rationale about the bank account as the 500K are meant to be emergency funds.

as for the remote work they clearly told you that trading personal shares is not a type of remote work. Do you trade shares in a company structure? If so you can write yourself a letter / employment contract from the company to state that what you do, that you are allowed to work from TH and that you will not work in TH or for TH clients.

as for the income show your personal bank statement that shows any income

this is probably one of the best replies here. Thank you so much. It’s very insightful 🙏 thank you!

I’ve been in the background reading comments on other posts for a while and some of the comments people are posting are far from any constructive comments or feedback. I think a lot of people need to be reminded that most people posting on here usually seek some sort of helpful advice.

Had problems with my bank statement as my name was stated in Chinese characters. They don’t tell you that. I discovered it and tried to change it at the bank (they said 3 weeks) so submitted a bank account in Singapore instead and that went through. If you have another bank elsewhere submit that.

Also they don’t care what currency you have - I didn’t hold a single THB.

yes I’ve provided the document in English and generated from a reputable bank. I’m not sure what else could go wrong

I had problems with my company documents untill I got them attested and then legalized by the royale thai embassy in Dubai (my company is in Dubai)

What goes for bank statement i uploaded that a couple of times, and uploaded a page after the statements that highlighted amount 3 months ago and then again 3 months later (currency was AED so i guess the do the conversion themselves too)

After that I got aproved.

good to know. Thank you. Unfortunately my bank won’t be able to provide that. But it is a reputable bank in Australia and I’ve highlighted that the bank is an Australian entity. I also expressed the bank statement is in AUD. I provided the conversion rate as well.

As for work, I don’t think my line of work is qualified as a remote work status. I think my best move forward is to either:

1. Write a cover letter requesting to apply through soft power instead

Or 2. Get my client to write a letter explaining the consultant service I provided.

I just got the 3 months bank statements in AED (not Bath) I then used ChatGPT to make a highlight photo and made a PDF with the original 3 months statements and the highlight statement as the last page in the pdf. Sure you can also ask chatgpt to make conversion as Well on a highlight page.

oh that’s a good idea. It’s funny because I provided a conversion rate from a reputable bank in Australia and yet they’ve requested another one. I’m a bit dumbfounded by the request

FascinatingSloth379 option 2 may perhaps progress the case while 1 will result in outright rejection of current application.

Hi all, thank you for the input. I applied as a share trader. I provided a consultancy service a while ago but don’t have a client agreement as it’s not a consistent income.

As for the money, I have it in savings account in Australian bank but it doesn’t display AUD on the statement and I’ve contacted the bank about it. Unfortunately they cannot provide a statement that clearly states at AUD in it. The balance is double the required about as it is a joint account with partner.

FascinatingSloth379 there's not much to do, they clearly stated that buying and selling stock isn't considered a job that could give you a DTV. You should consider soft powers or your next application

I think when you can proof you are frequently trading, have income for which you file tax it could work.

But it should be clear just buying sone stock and have a company registered is not enough to prove a remote job.

When you trade for customers, you should prove with contracts or payments.

FascinatingSloth379 I applied for soft powerslast year but they asked me all my working documents and check I got the money going from my employer into my back account for several months. After providing them everything asked, I even got summon for an interview which felt like being an interrogation at the police station. I got my Dtv but the experience was EXTREMELY stressful and their requirements were way ahead of what they asked me when I mailed them previous. I don't know what embassies are a bit more flexible these days, I can only recommend to avoid Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. They're all known for being strict

wow, really? They’ve moved everything online now as well. So if I have any questions, I don’t really have anywhere else I can ask. Which is frustrating.

which one would you recommend?

yes I provided all the trading from the last three months but I don’t think they accepted it as remote work category. I do have income tax from last Australian financial year. Do you recommend providing that to them? I have a feeling it might not suffice.

I think my two best moves would be;

1. Provide a letter from previous client confirming my consultancy service. However, I will not get paid for this until they sell the holding stocks. I didn’t draft up any contract at the time either because it was a close contact.

2. Given that my line of work is not considered remote work, I believe Submit ting a cover letter requesting a change of category to soft power could be viable

I’m unsure which option would best best to assist my situation
Fascinati**********
Fascinati**********
OP
@Michael *********
fair enough. Thanks for clarifying that. Do you think it’s worth writing a letter to them asking if I could change to soft power instead given that my current income status does not qualify for DTV?

Stock trading is not accepted as remote work.
Pascal ***********
Pascal ***********
@Toni ******
it is, as long as you can prove it's your job. Easiest to prove is with your tax filings, but off course then you need to report it as a taxable income in your country of residence.

Trading occasionally for your personal investments isn't accepted.

yes if you have a company you could say its a job... just trading your stocks or whatever dont qualify for the embassies, I think.. trading stocks inside your personal account is more like a hobby :)

I think there are threads on stock trading not qualifying as remote work. One must be clear about the DTV category first, prior applying.

Your statement should mention AUD or at least $ somewhere. If not, it should be clear from which bank it is and just explain in the cover letter.

For the proof of work, I don’t think that’s enough you need to show that you’re making income. So exactly what they mentioned: signed agreements and invoices that match your bank statement. A sole trader status is not really proof of income.

Hope that helps, I just got mine a couple of days ago

thank you. Yes it has $ everywhere on the statement. It is also double the required amount. I’m just unsure what else I could possibly provide for that.

You don't tell us what job you are doing, only that you do it as a sole trader.

The remark "Investing in and buying personal stocks is not considered remote work", suggests that you consider managing your personal stock portfolio as a remote job, and they don't.

FascinatingSloth379 if you want to prove it's your job, then you need to be able to show tax filings where this income is considered as a professional (and taxable) income.
