Hi, my name is June. I used to study in the UK for over six years. I graduated and recently returned to work in Thailand as a lecturer in university. My boyfriend plans to visit me this month (We have been together for more than 6 years).

.

The plan is he will come on a tourist visa and we will get married. Then he will try to apply for a job in Thailand in order to stay longer.

.

My question is for the tourist visa he is going to apply, which way is better for his application between..

.

1) He mention in the application that we are in a long-term relationship and he will stay with me during the time in Thailand (We will not mention that we plan to marry or getting a job) In this case, I will give hime the invitation letter to invite him to stay with me and mention that after the visa ends, he will go back to the UK

.

2) He just apply as a tourist, book the hotels. Don't mentioned me at all (or mention me as only a friend).

.

I am not sure which way is better? I hope my question makes sense. Thank you so much x

TLDR : Answer Summary
June is seeking advice on whether her boyfriend should mention their long-term relationship in his tourist visa application for Thailand or simply apply as a regular tourist. Comments suggest it is best not to mention the marriage plans in the initial application, focusing instead on the intention of tourism. There are also discussions on providing proof of accommodation, such as hotel bookings, and advice on the steps to take post-visa for securing a marriage-based non-immigrant O visa.

Good Luck Siriphan...the Single Entry Tourist Visa SETV suggested by Tod is a good choice for your b/f. Best Wishes for many happy years ahead as newlyweds in Thailand 😉

Worst case have him get a single entry tourist visa from the consulate there before he comes here..

If he comes in on a 60 day tourist visa he can get a 30 day extension and there should be no reason you can't get the documents together to get married in 90 days here.

Then send him to the thai consulate in Savannakhet to get a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa based on marriage.

I totally agree wth everyone else.

There is NO need to say he's comin' here to marry his fiancee (you) at all. he's applying for a tourist visa, so just say he wants to do "touristy things. :P

keep in mind there are requirements that need to be met to get the 6 month METV

If your b/f is from the UK this is the requirements for a 6 month METV

He can stay at least 9 months on a tourist visa and after that he can apply for a non o visa based on marriage

Hi all, thanks very much for your help so far. I'm the boyfriend in this case. While from the great help this group and yourselves have provided I understand about applying for the marriage-based non-O from a neighbouring country, to apply for the tourist visa from the UK in the first place I need to provide proof of accomodation, eg a hotel booking or letter of invitation. We were going to go the invitation letter route, but from what your comments

perhaps I'd be better off just booking a hotel that I can cancel later, just to show with my visa application? If that's advisable, would you say just book a single hotel for the 60 days duration of the SETV? If it's any help as I've seen people ask on here, it's a UK passport, applying from Thai Embassy in London, no visits to Thailand in 2019 and only 3 visa exempt entries in my passport from 2015 and 2018. Thanks again

I'm from the US, just arrived and am in a similar situation. I know every consulate is different but I applied for an METV and never mentioned my fiancée. I also never wasted money booking any accommodation. When required on any forms or the entry card you fill out on arrival I used her address and was never questioned about it. I did the same when entering on the 30 day visa exempt. My plan was to only give them the information they asked for, and to tell the truth if they asked for more.

Brilliant, thanks.

There is no benefit to mentioning the marriage. As far as Thailand is concerned, he is a tourist. If you are a Thai national, he will be eligible for a non-immigrant O visa based on marriage after you have married, but that's something you can do later. Perhaps others will chime in with something I'm missing, but I don't think you need to mention the marriage.

Getting a multiple-entry tourist visa is a simple matter of filling out an application at the Thai Consulate or Embassy in his home country, then paying the fee. Even a single entry tourist visa is quite straightforward...I don't know the raw numbers, but very few applicants are rejected for Thai tourist visas. There is no reason for him to show an invitation letter. Coming on a tourist visa to Thailand is much easier for a UK citizen than for a Thai citizen going to the UK.

Thank you so much for your reply Werner :) Sorry I just realised my post wasn't clear enough. I have corrected it. I don't plan to them them about our marrying plan. I will only them them we are in long term relationship and he will visit me, then go back to the UK. What I am not sure is he should apply as a tourist (without mentioning me at all) or apply by having me as a host (I will have an invitation letter for him)?
