TLDR : Answer Summary
Many users suggest that immigration offices in Chiang Mai are typically busy on Mondays due to people needing to renew their visas after weekends. For a 30-day tourist visa extension, it is generally recommended to arrive in the afternoon between Tuesday and Thursday to avoid long queues, as there are no limits on tourist extensions processed per day. The office will accept applications until 16:30.

FWIW in Chiang Mai, I went last Thursday for tourist 30-day extension. Lodged my paperwork at 9:22 am and was on my way home at 10:30.

As a general rule for Chiang Mai, for a tourist extension just go in the afternoon, there is no limit to the tourist extensions per day and no need to go early. They will process applications right up to 16:30 and the later you go the less you have to queue. This is only for tourist extensions, other visa types they have a limit and you need to go early. But not for tourist extensions.

As a rule all the immigration offices are busy on mondays because anyone who's stamps expired on the weekend HAVE to go on monday to get their extension or they'd be charged overstay.

I have always found tues-wed-thurs are the best days to go.
