At Chiang Rai Immigration now for extension of spouse visa.

My passport expired mid September this year. The IO just told me they will only give the extension till the passport expiration date and then I have to come back with the new passport and apply all over again.

Have I been given the correct advise?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The immigration officer at Chiang Rai has correctly informed the user that the extension of their spouse visa will only be valid up to the expiration date of their current passport. The user will need to return with a new passport to apply for another extension at that time.

Yes...that is the correct answer...

Your extension of stay will only be granted to your passport expiration date.
