A teaching recruitment agency is asking for my signature written large white blank paper. They say it is for the embassy to compare my signature on my passport. Is this real? For a work visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The community is skeptical about a teaching recruitment agency's request for a large signature on blank paper for a work visa application. Many users warn against this practice, equating it to signing a blank check and express concerns it could be a scam, especially given the agency's questionable online presence and lack of professional legitimacy. Overall, they recommend caution and suggest that proper documentation should require direct signatures on actual forms rather than on blank sheets.

Sounds like nonsense to me. Like a Malsian taxi driver asking to photo me and add to his collection. (Hint .. think .. dodgy passports)

Send me your signature, pass port and social security number.

Very Thai...555.

Where did you find these folks? They have absolutely no presence other than their website, which is highly questionable. Find a legitimate organization.

Never ✍️ sign a blank ✅ check; never sign a blank (insert word).... #RulesofLife😂 You don’t need agencies as one poster mentioned. Plenty of avenues. Besides most schools aren’t even open or playing the Russian Roulette game of open close. If you’re not in country [as idk your case] it’d be hard anyways. Most job ads want folks already in country and even then, the job listings are limited— 🤷🏾‍♂️

so you probably wouldn't recommend moving to Bangkok and hoping to find a job.

It wouldn’t be right for me to say one way or the other but, were it me, I wouldn’t — 🤷🏾‍♂️

I think you can get away doing that, if you are fully vaccinated, and willing to take a risk. The borders should open up again in January (I hope).

That website screams "scam".

1. Telephone number is NOT Thai

2. Their head office is in one of those "rent a mailbox at a very high-so area".

3. It says I can work WITHOUT a degree (I'm guessing at a language center?).

4. SOME of schools listed that gave positive reviews are banned from some of the Teaching in Thailand groups because of how they treat the teachers.

5. Typos on the website? "Guy Service. Busy packing my bags and ready to experience Teaching in Thailand. Thanks to English Teacher in Thailand I received, job offers within a few days." "Megan, English Teacher in Asia managed to get both my BF and I a Teaching position at the same School. I am ecstatic and want to say a great thanks to them." Huh?

6. I can't seem to download any of the pictures of the people's faces and run it through tineye.com

No. Only on documents

This looks like a scam. Facebook page was created a few months ago. They say based in Bangkok yet the phone number is South Africa area code. No SSL certificate on the website. Looks like the website took 5 mins to make. This is not a reputable agency. PLEASE DO NOT send your signature to them. Find a proper agency with a track record. Many FB groups for teachers in Thailand and other Asian countries. Get recommendations.

SA phone number in this case ... Guaranteed criminals.

That is just asking for trouble. NEVER EVER sign a blank sheet of paper for anything. 🙁

Sounds very dodgy. No way would I do that. They would just send a copy of your passport as it has your pic and signature on it.

Never heard of that. Why not post the agency name and see if anyone else has dealt with them? Never sign blank paper it's like signing a blank cheque .

If you have to do something then write a letter to the embassy and sign at the bottom. I'd post the agency name here first to be safe though.

I can't see the full website address. Better if you put the link in the original post. Edit it and everyone can easily see it.

I'd be cautious. Usually signing on a plain piece of paper is used so someone can duplicate your signature either as a scan or to make a signature chop to stamp it on documents or cheques. If they are submitting any applications for you at the embassy/consulate, I don't see why they can't send you the documents for your signature to scan back to them instead. Even without a signature line, it is normal in Thailand for you to have to sign just anywhere on the bottom of every page of a contract or application document, but again, you should be signing the actual pages of the document and not let them duplicate your signature onto every page via a scan or stamp of it because that would allow them to use it for anything for eternity.

Maybe they are going to apply for the visa for you and they need to sign the application with your signature.
