Is it normal for a language school in Pattaya to request a Thai agent's ID for an Ed visa application?

Hello to everyone! I'm trying to get an Ed visa in a language school in Pattaya, but they say that I need to show them the ID of a Thai agent who helped me to rent an apartment. As I haven't such agent (I rent an apartment from the owner) they suggested me to pay extra money to them so that they can find such an agent for me. Is it OK, or they just want money?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking an Ed visa in Pattaya but was asked by a language school to provide the ID of a Thai agent who allegedly helped with the rental of their apartment, which they rented directly from the owner. Comments from the community suggest this request is unusual and potentially a scam, as legitimate schools typically just require proof of residence without needing an agent's ID.

That's a scam.

At a real school you just need to report your address at immigration and give them copies of that paper and your rental agreement.

Sound crazy... Probably a misunderstanding.

I had a legitimate Thai school Ed visa. No verification was ever asked from school other than writing down my address on the application forms. Immigration of course requires tm30 receipt.

I can't think of any legitimate purpose that information would be needed, even if you had an agent.

my school only wanted my address, they never asked for anyone's ID other than my own. I also rented my condo from the owner directly. If my school wanted me to pay them money to hire an agent to pretend they rented me a condo i would find a different school... that sounds like bullshit to me

They need proof of where you live for immigration. Chanote and contract etc.

Which school BTW?

Never heard of this before. Definitely doesn't sound normal. Might want to try and find a different school and talk to them.
