Hi all! Just wanting some advice about crossing via Thanaleng (Laos) to Nong Khai.
We are coming back to Thailand after (almost) a month in Laos. We will come through Nong Khai for our train back to Bangkok tomorrow night.
Just wondering, if our train isnβt until 19:40, is it safe to leave the crossing until after midday? Or, with it being a bit of a busy crossing, should we just come over as early as possible and kill time in town until our train?
Appreciate your advice! ππ»
N.B - We are both coming through on a visa exemption (Australian and South African - and have not done any land crossings previously, only 2 x plane entries last year, no overstays, and an extension each of the 2 times we came).

TLDR : Answer Summary
A traveler is seeking advice about crossing from Thanaleng, Laos to Nong Khai, Thailand, with a train scheduled for 19:40. They inquire whether it's safe to cross after midday or if they should do so earlier to avoid risks at the busy crossing. Comments suggest there shouldn't be any issues crossing later in the day, especially on a Thursday, and recommend enjoying time in Nong Khai before the train.
As tomorrow is a Thursday, no issues at all about any possible super busy crossing from Vientiane into Nong Khai such as the situation like on Friday afternoons and the weekends. A late afternoon, or even sunset crossing should be fine. But enjoying something to eat/drink in Nong Khai before boarding your train is good too!
