Hello group members,

Need some advice regarding land border entry for tourism.

Nationality: Indian, eligible for 60 day visa free entry

1. Planning to fly in to BKK, travel to the north for 7 days (Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai) , cross-over to Laos, and take the boat to Luang Prabang, and spend 10 days in Laos.

2. Cross over to Thailand via Nong Khai border (avail visa free entry), travel Nong Khai to BKK , then take the bus from BKK to Siem Reap (Cambodia).

3. Stay in Cambodia for 10 days, crossover again to Thailand from Aranyaprathet, and fly back to India.

Key questions:

1. Is the visa free entry scheme for Indian citizens valid for these 2 border crossings- Nong Khai and Aranyaprathet. I have seen reports of some Indians being denied entry at Nong Khai and asked to fly from Vientiene to Bangkok instead.

2. Is there any restriction on the number of times a person can avail the visa free entry scheme, (i will be entering Thailand 3 times within a period of 30 days, before finally flying back to India)

3. Am i expected face any additional scrutiny or entry denial on account of my nationality, vs say a person from a first world country?

Kindly provide your inputs.

Warm Regards

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, an Indian citizen eligible for a 60-day visa-free entry, is planning to travel from Thailand to Laos and Cambodia and return to Thailand via land borders. They're seeking advice on whether the visa-free entry applies to multiple crossings and the likelihood of facing scrutiny based on their nationality. Responses indicate that Nong Khai is generally an easy crossing, but Aranyaprathet has a reputation for being problematic. There are no strict limits on visa-free entries, but it depends on the immigration officer's discretion.

1) I've never heard of anyone having trouble at Nong Khai. It's probably the easiest land border to cross in all of Thailand. But Poipet/Aranyaprathet is the worst land border in all of Thailand. They deny people entry all the time, and agents don't even use that border it's so bad.

2) There is no written rule. It's at the discretion of the immigration officer.

3) Not likely, since it's more about how long you've spent in Thailand than how many times you are entering.

Thank you for your reply.

Regarding Nong Khai, while i understand it must be easy for holders of western passports, but quite a few Indian travellers have been denied entry since the visa free regime began (including a few youtubers). Interestingly, a couple of them were told upfront while going the other way (Thailand to Laos), that they will be denied entry from here while returning, but they can fly in. Would be interesting to know the experiences of relatively "weak" nationality passport holders here
