Hello all!

I have a quick question: if I have a tourist visa and find an employer, is it easy (or even possible) to change it to a working visa? I have a US passport.

Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, it is possible to change your tourist visa to a work-related visa in Thailand, specifically to a Non-Immigrant Type B visa. However, the process depends on having the necessary employer documentation and sufficient time left on your tourist visa. Generally, conversion can be done in-country if you have at least 15 days remaining on your current visa, but many employers will prefer to have you process this at a Thai consulate outside of Thailand.

There is actually no such thing as a "working visa"

However there IS a Non-Immigrant Type B <- (the B means business) visa.

SOME employers will provide you with the documentation to do an in country conversion from a 30 day visa exempt, a 60 day tourist visa or a 30 day extension on either one of those to a 90 day Non-B visa.

You need at least 15 days or more left on your current stamp to do it in Bangkok. Other offices (like Chiang Mai) require 21 days or more left on your current stamp to do it.

However, MOST employers provide you with documentation to take to a nearby thai consulate in another country and get a 90 day single entry Non-B visa.

, sorry NO a 90 day single entry tourist visa cannot be extended for 12 months. It can be extended for 30 days ONLY .

Once you find a job you apply for a 90 day Non-B visa inside the country or take paperwork to a thai consulate and get a 90 day Non-B visa THEN you apply for a year extension of stay based on employment.
