Is it possible to switch from a METV to a DTV while still holding a METV in Thailand?

Hello, I have saved a few posts about switching from a METV to DTV but when I check back they've been deleted. I apologize if this answer has already been asked and answered elsewhere.

I have seen mixed reports about applying for the DTV while being on a METV. Is it actually possible to cancel a METV if the embassy asks? Specifically, does Hanoi require this before issuing a DTV? I currently have a METV that does not expire until July 2025 but would like to apply for the DTV in April if it is possible. Thank you 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the ability to switch from a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) to a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) while already in Thailand. One commenter advises waiting until the METV expires in July 2025 before applying for the DTV, as you cannot hold two visas simultaneously or cancel a visa once issued.

You can't simultaneously hold 2 visas and you can't cancel a visa. Wait until you pass the validity date of your METV then leave Thailand and apply for the DTV

You're better off just waiting until July, which is just less than 90 days away anyway. Meanwhile you can use the METV to enjoy your time in Thailand until July, leave, then apply for the DTV.
