DTV done in Korea (6 weeks!)

Some people here thought it was impossible to do in Korea as a tourist but it was not true. I've emailed them before applying and a tourist stamp is good enough for them.

Applied online as digital nomad. They asked:

* Only 3 months of bank statements

* Full employment contract

* CV

* Tourist Stamp in Passport

* Certificate of Employment (letter from a manager)

* Proof of accommodation (Airbnb in my case)

Big con - the amount of time it took to process the application the whole 6 weeks. And 4 weeks is the minimum, no special cases. I also did an email follow up every week just in case. It was a hassle in the end and I'd rather have done it in Laos or Vietnam in a much shorter time.

But if you want to experience Korea and also do a DTV just make sure you go there for 2 months for the lengthy visa processing.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shares their experience of successfully applying for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) while in Korea as a tourist, despite initial skepticism from others. The online application took 6 weeks and required documentation such as bank statements, employment proof, and accommodation details. They advise that the process is lengthy, and it may have been quicker in other countries like Laos or Vietnam.

Man, that sounds like an awful waste of time AND expensive... Took me less than a week to do it in Sydney.

If i was in Asia doing it I'd just research what the easiest embassy is and fly there. Why would you make things so difficult for yourself?

I actually wanted to experience Korea so it was a byproduct. I didn't go there specifically to do DTV 🙂 I've even booked a Laos appointment in case I had trouble with Korean embassy

No thanks... Taipei is the best for the DTV.

i read more your message and i think Taipei is better if they take money only if approved. Jakarta they taked before. So yes, Taipei is better for this, Jakarta second :D

been trying to find out where is generally the best in terms of efficiency/speed etc. Can I ask why here?

Taipei is still a walkup Thai Embassy for the application...

Present application in person...

Turnaround time in One or two days...

Don't collect the 10,000 Thai baht visa fee until DTV visa is approved...

Pick up DTV Visa placed in passport in person.

@James *******
Thank you.

What do you mean by “Don’t collect the fee”?
James ********
@Cameron ********
Most All Thai Embassy or Consulate collect the 10,000 Thai baht fee on Application. Not refundable. Taipei cc collects when approved.

@James *******
Oh that’s interesting. So which one is following the correct procedure?

@Cameron ********
it's Up to the Thai Embassy or Consulate to decide. BUT if they are using the Evisa online application system, you MUST pay the visa fee of 10,000 Thai baht at the time of submitting the application. So... look for the Thai Embassy or Consulate where the walkup application is STILL available, Taipei STILL is thru December.

and if you make the slightest mistake in your online application (photo background not white, spelling mistake, typo) they will cancel it and you'll have to pay 10k baht again. Happened to a few people now

6 weeks, enough time to track down Johnny Somali and leave an impression, in his skull.

Are you completely sure? Did you mention it was for a DTV? The Thai Embassy in Korea has ALWAYS processed tourism and other types visas for non residents (tourists) in Korea, but for the DTV, they require the person to be a resident of Korea, or a Korean national.

I read that you already got it. Congratulations. Then, it seems the Embassy did changed the rules. They where clearly not accepting non residents for the DTV back in July and August (which was odd as they did accepted tourists for the other visas).

@ElĂas *******
- I would suggest that the OP double check to ensure he actually received a DTV and not a tourist visa. That has happened a couple of times, although at other embassies.

I've got DTV and already arrived and got stamped for 6 months. I did it online at section called DTV and I probably wouldn't have to send them all those documents for just a tourist visa. You can email embassy yourself like I did.

- Just making sure. There have been a few cases where applicants have submitted online for DTV, submitted all the detailed requirements and in return got approval for a tourist visa. When asked, embassy has said they didn’t need DTV for what they were requesting. Glad it is actual DTV in your situation.

I also got my DTV in Korea (I'm a resident), back in August, and it also took more than 1 month.
