Yes 20 days in pending document check is normal now. Many embassies have many DTV applications so they take time. Sometimes it stays on that status for two or three weeks then changes fast to approved. So your case is normal.
Congrats on approval, that heart shows you are happy. Now print your DTV approval email and keep it with your passport. Also save a photo on your phone. At the airport they may ask to see it. First entry they may ask about your work and bank so keep those papers ready too.
If you want tips for first entry after approval and what to do next, there is a good step by step part in Unlock Thailand by Isla Rey on Amazon, it explains what happens after pending and how to enter smooth. Enjoy your trip to Thailand.
I applied the 1st of September, 28th days later they asked for more documents, the 1st of October it changed to pending aproval, and still waiting since then...
they asked for a flight ticket and a consolidated bank account statement, and again they asked how will I make money during my stay in Thailand. they asked the same things to my wife, she already got the DTV
Back log currently if that helps. 15 working days is the target if your not an emergency last minute application is what I know. It has been suggested that some have waited over a month.
I will be going to Japan on November 11th, and from there, I have a ticket to Bangkok for December 2nd.I applied for a visa on September 30th in Turkey.
