status in the website changes to Pending approval.

*****
medical emergency occurred with a Thai family member in Thailand

I emailed the Embassy to inform them of the situation and I needed to return to Thailand on
*****
. and asked if the visa could be approved in time. No reply to my email. I called the Embassy also, but could never get through to any staff member.

I fly back to Thailand, and was granted 60 day visa exempt stamp. (Don Mueang airport)

Monday
*****
I received the ‘Visa approved email. With the visa attached.

I departed from Thailand through Nong Kai Immigration.

The IO asked why I had not used my DTV. I explained my situation and after checking with his supervisor they said it would be no problem to come back into Thailand using my DTV. I was stamped out of Thailand.

3 days in Vientiane, and back to Immigration at Nong Kai border checkpoint.

Absolutely no questions asked, and stamped in for 180 days.

I did keep the above mentioned email that I sent to HCMC Thai embassy, to show I did inform them I needed to go back to Thailand. But I was never asked.

Im sharing my situation, which might be of help to others.

Anonymous participant then you risk your visa being refused

Stay in the country you applied in until you are approved or you risk your Visa being canceled or application rejected when they ask you to confirm your location and you're unable to do so.

When you are asked for additional docs the approval time is reset to back to 0 days. UK is fairly quick with approval so you are vry likely to hear something soon. If you are out of the country when approved and they find out your DTV can be cancelled or rescinded on arrival in Thailand.

Anonymous participant Yes, some have had success doing that. Approvals are sent out over the weekend, so you may be lucky.

What happened to that guy a couple of months ago in the situation - he had to return to UK did he not?
Andi ***********
@Greg *******
He went back to the UK also in SE Asia, Malaysia was one of the places. He has plans to return to LOS at some point.

@Andi **********
Bit he had to go back to UK to validate the DTV that was issued while he was in Thailand or they would not issue while not in UK??
Andi ***********
@Greg *******
I thought it was rescinded, as he had applied for it while in Thailand. The agent never told him he had to be outside LOS during the application process allegedly. Similar to the American. He had to leave the airport.
