Is it necessary to book a 2-week stay in Hanoi for my visa application, or is 10 days sufficient?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The consensus among commenters is that the duration of your booking (10 days versus 2 weeks) does not affect your visa application for Thailand. You can apply for the visa regardless of whether you book for 10 days or opt for a longer stay. It is noted that the processing time for the visa is what's important, rather than the number of days booked.

No, you can not get any special treatment by telling the Embassy you only booked 10 days.

You apply and wait until the visa is issued before return to Thailand.
