Due to the closure in Vientiane and that I already have tickets and a hotel (which I'll forfeit) l paid for I will attempt to go to Savannakhet. I'm flying in to Udon Thani and will cross at Nong Khai. As I'm on the first flight out of DMK (05:45) is it reasonable that I can get to Savannakhet in time for their cut off? (I'm going for my ED visa, approved already by MOE). Any advice on what to look for in regards to transportation?

Thank you everyone for your help, I'm going to just postpone until next week as there are too many variables and that I've budgeted time wise for any hiccups I'm still ahead of the 8 ball. Really do appreciate this group.

If Vientiane consulate is closed there’s a good chance so will the one in Savanaket.

I believe this is an extraordinary closure in Vientiane related to a VIP visit, not a Laos holiday. So it doesn't affect the other consulate.

You could fly to udon thani. Then take the bus to mukdahan and cross the border there. I doubt you'll make the cut off time but it'll be a lot easier than going from vientiane to savannakhet.

You wont make savannakhet from vientiane, youll need to apply the following day. Your best bet would have been flying to ubon then cross the border at mukdahan. Savannakhet is about an 8 hour drive from vientiane.
