Searched the group with no luck. Here's my question - If I arrive in Udon Thani at 7:15am, (by air) I have plenty of time to make it to my appointment in Vientiane by 9am to 12pm the same day, right?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the feasibility of making it to an appointment in Vientiane after arriving in Udon Thani by air at 7:15 AM. Responses suggest that while it is theoretically possible to arrive by 9 AM, delays can occur. Several users recommend getting an eVisa in advance, as well as considering alternate travel arrangements to ensure timely arrival.

And I think after the helpful suggestions by everyone, Daniel can now figure out how to get from Udon to Nong Khai, cross the border into Lao and make their way to the thai consulate..

Good Luck

Have you tried using Nok Air? They have a fly and drive service. That’s always been on time for me so far.

They fly you to Udon Thani then co-ordinate your land border crossing with their vans and drop you off in Vientiane.

They do the reverse on the way back if you need it. Really helpful if you want to do a visa + border run.

unfortunately you can't get IN to vientiane soon enough to get to the thai consulate and apply for a visa that day

You can make it BUT you need to NOT have any checked luggage, AND you need to have your shit together to get off the plane, get out there and catch that mini-van that lugs you to the Nong Khai Border

It's 60 KM from the airport to the border So you need to hustle..

I would take people's advice and get your Lao visa BEFORE you go so that you're not queuing up to buy it at the border

If the appointment time is crucial I would either make it later in the day or go a day earlier!

I fly in and out of Thailand (Phuket) very regularly and every time my flight is delayed by at least one hour due to late arrival of plane, adverse weather, engineering issues etc!

Got back from Saigon last week, three hours late ( late departure and then put in a holding pattern for 40 minutes because of thunderstorms and high winds) and then waited almost an hour getting through immigration with only four IO's on duty!

You can speed up the immigration process on the Laos side by getting an eVisa in advance instead of getting the regular Visa on Arrival.

Theoretical yes, but n case of flight delays, flat tires, blocked road due to accidents it could not always work out in practice

And additionally, would I have time to make it to my appointment if arriving by bus in Nong Khai at 9am?

Same here, theory yes, but if you for example are number 150 in line for the Visa on Arrival, it could take a little longer to pass the border.
