Hello everyone. I would like to ask some information. I am about to go to Savannakhet for a ME NON O 1 year visa in April. But because we do not have a car i can not find any useful information about buses. Anyone have any information about how to get to Savannakhet from Khon Kaen? I can see there is a bus going twice a day to Mukdahan but i can not find any timetable from Mukdahan to Savannakhet. Is there any other way to go to Savannakhet from Mukdahan? Any answer highly appreciated. Thank you very much

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking information on how to travel from Khon Kaen to Savannakhet for a ME NON O 1-year visa. They are looking for bus schedules and other transportation options, as they do not have a car. The conversation reveals that there are two daily buses from Khon Kaen to Mukdahan, but limited information regarding onward travel to Savannakhet. Community members suggest taking a tuk-tuk or taxi from Mukdahan to the border, then catching another bus that operates frequently to Savannakhet. They also advise planning to avoid the Songkran holiday when consulates may be closed.

Get to the Mukdahan Bus station. From there - take a tuk tuk or taxi for the short ride to the bridge. You have to get out of the vehicle you are in when you arrive at the bridge and go through Thai Immigration... Upon exiting Thai immigration you will be directed to another bus that crosses over the Mekong River. Get out of the bus - go through Lao Immigration to enter Laos. Then Exit out to a taxi, bus, tuk tuk area to take the short ride to the Thai Consulate or to a hotel

thanks for a quick and many answers. im planning to go 2nd or 3rd April coz my visa expire 7th and is Saturday. The problem is if we take the bus from Khon Kaen it is only 2 buses per day. 2pm and 3.30pm. the ride take 4 hours so if the last bus leave Mukdahan 4.30pm we will be very late. We will see about the taxi or the tuk tuk from the Mukdahan bus station. We was planninng to stay 2 or 3 nights to get in time to the consulate and after for the waiting time to get my passport back. Thanks guys again

First bus goes from Mukdahan bus station at 7:30am then every hour until about 17:30

Thai consulate takes visa applications in the morning up to 11:30

Then you pickup next day at 14:00

sorry can't remember. You don't need a booking not a busy place. When the bus pulls into the station the hotel is on the left hand side down the back.

@Lance ******
can you tell me the name of the hotel if you can remember of it please?

Bus goes every 30 minutes. You can stay at a hotel at the bus station and go to Loas first thing in the morning 300bht a night

remember that all the consulates will be closed over Songkran so don't plan your trip around then ;)

Buses and tuk tuks run regularly from Mukdahan to the border or get a taxi, it's only about 5kms to the border. Buses run all the way to Savanakhet from Mukdahan
Dylan ********
There are frequent buses from Mukdahan that will stop at the border and then go to Savannakhet. I’ve forgotten how frequently but think the last one maybe at 4.30.

You go to Mukdahan and Savannakhet is the Lao province across the river. You can get there easy from the Mukdahan bus station. If you're going to that consulate to get a year-long, multi-entry Non-O based on marriage have your thai wife get the times for you. It's not a hard thing to get from the bus station in Mukdahan to the friendship bridge and cross into Lao then get to the thai consulate in Savannakhet.
