Does anyone know if it is allowed to make YouTube content that currently makes no money on a tourist visa while in 🇹🇭?
Any advice appreciated. 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
Creating YouTube content while on a tourist visa in Thailand exists in a grey area of immigration law. While many individuals do it without issues, the Thai government may require a work permit if the content is solely focused on Thailand. Content creators are generally advised to frame their activities as part of a larger trip to avoid complications. Ultimately, the enforcement of these rules seems lax unless the content raises legal concerns or criticism of the government.

Yes of course, you can film in Thailand. Tip; read up on how publishing and intellectual property rights works in an international context.
YouTube videos are harmless. People are posting them in their thousands. You won't get any attention UNLESS you post something which criticises the government, Buddha or the monarchy. Stuck to tourism and nobody's going to take a blind bit of notice
You aren’t allowed to work online while living in Thailand on a tourist visa. Immigration still considers that working in Thailand on a tourist visa even if you are not actually going to a physical job. They will deny entry at Suvarnabhumi if you say this upon arrival
The Thai authorities say, that if a Thai would do the same "work" and can request to get paid for it, then it is "work". Not mine but their logic.

Get yourself a VPN, and make sure it’s connected whilst you are online, wherever you are!!!

If any officer asks you what you are doing in Thailand, you are a tourist. Maybe you happen to make a few videos about your experience in Thailand to share on youtube.
If you say you are "working on Youtube," then now you are going to be violating immigration law unless you have a work permit and a proper visa.

yes indeed. Embrace the experience and learn what you can. And laugh at phenomenally stupid still manages to survive. Best of luck. If you plan on doing this long term, there are options you should pursue. Meanwhile have a great time
if you have no clue what you are talking about, just put down your phone and go do something useful. Good boy

The definition of "work" by immigration is not solely attached to income. There are many kinds of work that require the proper visa and work permit even if unpaid.
The Thai government has mentioned they allow travel youtubers to make content on Thailand on tourist visa as long as it is part of a larger trip...but if it is solely on Thailand then they would require a work permit.
I would say it's probably a grey area.. If the content has anything to do with Thailand it could be a black area... But realisticly I would not worry that much of immigration coming knocking at your door unless you do something stupid.
very insightful thank you! I will speak to a lawyer as well and will likely open a company if it seems like that’s the direction I need to but for now this is only an idea and I want my bases covered before I get too far into it.
a CNN journalist and cameraman were arrested/charged. They were on tourist visas. Why, because they went into a crime scene without permission which caused mass outrage. Nothing to do with their visa status. They got a 5000B fine for working on a tourist visa and ordered to leave the country.
are you doing an exposé on the corruption of Thai police, or inner workings of government / military? Do you have a crew with you? If not then the government won't care in the slightest. Don't piss the wrong people off and no one cares. There's plenty of illegal things happening that police turn a blind eye to. They wouldn't even consider someone with a gopro on a stick to be in that category.
I applaud your responsible attitude but honestly, you’re way over thinking it. You are not going to be even slightly on their radar but if you have the funds to waste and do it all legit, then up to you as they say. Good luck with whatever you’re doing.
You should actually say, cook food for your Thai girl...That might be more of a thinker. For oneself no question.. But technically do something for other is generally illegal. I seen problems in Canada about boyfriends helping do big projects around the house get in trouble with immigration.
