Do I need a work permit to work online in Thailand while on a tourist visa?

I think this is two questions

A) Can I work online while in Thailand

B) How can I stay in Thailand indefinitely

I am a computer engineer, I work online, I have been living in Thailand about 8 years. I don't tell the Thai government, also, they don't ask. You can claim whatever, you are independently wealthy, you live off your investment, you own a small company. All are pretty true. But honestly, nobody has ever asked me.

Staying indefinitely.

- get married to a Thai National

- get rich

- adopt a kid (requires verification)

- have a kid (requires verification)

- get job

- go to school (or Muay Thai training)

- marry somebody who is doing one of the above

- habitual tourist

I have done the habitual tourist for years, never a problem but there are risks involved. I recently starting doing the marriage visa. I am already mostly done. I don't think I could recommend it.

it technically is illegal, but if it was actually enforced, most of the digital nomads and online teachers here would be screwed. I don't think the labor department will touch it with a 10 meter pole

You won't get a work permit. People do work online but it is illegal. If you choose to do it I'd keep very quiet about it

Yes, you can work remotely as long as you're not working for a Thai company or being paid in Thailand. Teaching some kid online in China who pays you over PayPal has nothing to do with Thailand and isn't working in Thailand and there's not 1 single example of anyone ever being arrested or prosecuted.

You cannot work in Thailand without a work permit.

You cannot get a work permit as a remote worker of a foreign company.

Most people just keep their head down and don't announce it or make it obvious.

If you get a tourist visa you will be stamped into Thailand for 60 days and can extend for 30 days at immigration.

If you need more time you can border bounce and get 30 day visa exempt and a 30 day extension, or go to a neighboring country and apply for another tourist visa and do 60+30 again.

You could also try getting a multiple entry tourist visa which is valid for 6 months. You'd be stamped in for 60 days which you can extend for 30, and then you can border bounce and get a new 60 days which you can extend.
