Hello everyone

I am a non B visa holder and it expires on the 30th of this month(April). I have not started the process of applying for a new/Extension of my Non B. My next employer told me I should wait until 30 April and cancel my current visa, apply for 30 day extension then when school reopens they will again apply for my Non B that will be sponsored by their school because the current one was sponsored by my previous school. Please advise, does that sound right? Has anyone ever done it before(Cancelled their Non B). Please help

TLDR : Answer Summary
A non-B visa holder is seeking advice on whether to cancel their current visa to apply for a 30-day extension before obtaining a new Non-B visa sponsored by their new employer. A comment warns that typically, one cannot extend a non-B visa and may need to leave the country immediately after cancellation, as well as clarifying that the employer may have provided misleading advice regarding extensions.

Did your new employer tell you what 30 day extension to apply for? Coming off of a non-B you generally don't qualify for any extension and need to leave the country the day your existing extension is cancelled.

You MIGHT be able to apply for the Covid extension, but this is not normally an option so your employer gave you terrible advice. And they need to check with the immigration office they plan to use for your new non-B extension and find out if you can get that extension if you're on a covid extension.

But all of this is assuming you are even approved for a Covid extension which is not guaranteed.
