Hello everyone;

We are 2 US citizens, both had a great 2yr ride on the covid visa, left Thailand 5 months ago to travel Cambodia/Vietnam but just booked a return flight to Samui to stay hopefully another 45 days.

Question is; is it still advisable to have 20K baht cash on arrival to BKK? And/or an onward ticket? Or anything outside of those things?

I don't feel like we should be too concerned about all the covid stamps in our passports bc we've been out of the country for awhile, it's obviously not a border run...

Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the travel plans of two US citizens returning to Thailand and inquires about the need for cash (20K baht) and an onward ticket upon arrival. Responses caution against flying directly into Thailand due to previous immigration history tied to COVID-19. It is suggested that land border crossings may be a better option for entering Thailand, along with advice on expected immigration procedures.

As Americans you will get STAMPED in for 45 days on entry into Thailand Plus one 30 day extension of stay = 75 days.. and REPEAT ...BY LAND BORDER CROSSINGS...you can get 2 ENTRIES into Thailand using LAND BORDERS EACH CALENDAR YEAR.

With planning, you should be able to return to your living in Samui.

I just began my trip to Thailand, via American Airlines. I bought a convertible ticket to Manila and was not asked to see it by the airline.

it's most common for the airlines from the USA to ask for proof of a ticket departing Thailand... You were ready.

Having shared the CAUTION FLAG on the post, for their benefit and others with similar immigration history...

I suggest that the OP be prepared for questions upon arrival if they choose to Fly into Thailand.

Again I say...enter Thailand with a LAND BORDER crossing ONLY.

Sorry I cannot be more encouraging....

We wish them Good Luck.

I have placed the TOPIC BORDER RUNS

we have reports of folks like you with a recent history of living in Thailand with varied visas and COVID extensions during the past 2 years.

Thai Immigration Officers are seeing that.... and asking WHY DO YOU STAY SO LONG?

As they deny you entry,

you are detained in IDC Immigration Detention Center in the airport awaiting the next flight returning to your home country or from where your flight arrived from...at your expense.
