What should I do if I don't have 20,000 Baht when re-entering Thailand with an expired education visa and a new tourist visa?

Hi. I'm coming back to Thailand from Vientiane on Saturday by land border (friendship bridge). I have one ed visa which ended this week and a tourist visa (hopefully obtained tomorrow). However, I do not have 20k. Is this likely to be a problem? What is the worst case scenario?

If I am declined for whatever reason can I get back into Thailand on a visa exempt so I can at least get my stuff and bid farewell?

Are they also likely to ask for onward travel? I was planning to extend visa in Thailand so would buy a flight beyond the 60 days on visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is returning to Thailand from Vientiane with an expired education visa and hopes to have a tourist visa. They are concerned about not having the required 20,000 Baht and what the worst-case scenario might be if they are denied entry. They also want to know if they can use a visa-exempt entry to collect their belongings and whether they will be asked for proof of onward travel.
