TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion clarifies that Chase Bank in Bangkok is not considered a Thai bank for the purposes of showing proof of funds for a retirement visa. It is identified as an American bank, mainly conducting commercial banking and lacking retail banking services. Participants suggest that only specific Thai banks like Kasikorn Bank and Bangkok Bank are recognized for this requirement.

I actually had that same idea last year and Google American Banks in Thailand. The ones like "Chase" are not connected to the American company. I was hoping to just transfer money from Chase bank in the US to Thailand, or even just go into the branch and they could simply pull up my account. No such luck. I really haven't found a legit work around. Just have to do it the difficult way I guess. If you find a better way, please report back.

Richmand ******
Is there a chase bank in Bangkok.
Franklin ***********
@Richmand *****
theres 1 office. No tellers or transactions. You cannot do any banking there
Ken ***********
@Richmand *****
then why the question about Chase ? I don't understand the basis for your question.
Garrett ***********
There's no chase bank in Thailand.
John ********
I think you mean JP Morgan Chase Bank. I don’t think they do retail banking for consumers just for businesses.

You’ll need a Thai Bank.
Paul ********
@John *******
I have a chase account and it’s a private one just for savings
Paul ********
I live in Thailand have a chase account and that’s it so who will stop me ?
John **********
@Paul *******
not in Thailand you won't
Paul ********
@John *********
you won’t ?
John **********
@Paul *******
have a savings account with chase in Thailand. It's not something they provide
John ********
@Paul *******
in Thailand? A Brit?
Duncan *******
@Paul *******
you need the money in a bank with a retail banking license in Thailand - Chase does have one.
Ken ***********
@Paul *******
chase will not be accepted for Thai financials
Paul ********
@Ken ******
I have a chase account for savings only I have Bangkok and KBank here for proof of funds
Paul ********
I’m sure there are

Only 3 banks for that.

Kasikorn, Bangkok I know are 2 of them. Chase is definitely not the other

@Paul *******
and SCB (Siam commercial bank)
Brandon ************
@Paul *******
any Thai bank will work for proof of funds. Though I know there's one Thai bank that will never let a foreigner have an account, so probably not that one. Otherwise they're all accepted by immigration.
Paul ********
@Brandon ***********
not easy to open a bank account here but I opened a Bangkok and k bank accounts to make sure I have 2 as I feel if one starts messing me around I can change
Jon ********
@Paul *******
All Thai banks would qualify.
Paul ********
@Jon *******
because you have one of the approved banks 🤨
Paul ********
@Jon *******
I was told there were only 3 that could clear above 50,000 baht
Bob **********
@Paul *******
that’s true but you could do two transfers if in one of the other Thai banks didn’t know the had a Chase Bank here American banks can only have one location and now Citi Bank is gone
Stephan ***********
@Paul *******
Yes, Bangkok Bank, Kasikorn and SC.
Jon ********
@Paul *******
What do you mean clear 50,000? I use Krungsri.
Stephan ***********
@Jon *******
It's the new law about money laundering. Every transaction above 50,000 Baht must be verified with the Bank of Thailand. At the moment there are only 3 banks available for that... BBL, SCB and KBANK.
Declan **********
@Stephan **********
transferred well over 50k into krungthai from abroad last week, no issues.
Graham ******
@Declan *********
That's because your account has been verified with facial recognition
Jon ********
@Stephan **********
I did some wire tranfers the past few days that exceeded that but to do a transaction over 50,000 within Thailand I needed to get facial recongition set up on my app.
Stephan ***********
@Jon *******
With Krungsri?
Paul ********
@Jon *******
apparently over 50k there are only a few banks that will clear money in from overseas. Bangkok and kbank are

Two of them
Jon ********
@Paul *******
I have a hard time believing that. Regarldess, I have Krungsri and there are no limits I have encountered in 10 years.
Andy *******
Pretty sure it's an American Bank.
