Hi guys is a 6 months muay thai course enough for the dtv or i might get issued a METV visa instead?
Answer summary
The discussion revolves around whether a 6-month Muay Thai course is adequate for securing a DTV visa or if a METV visa might be issued instead. Comments suggest that a 6-month course may typically result in only a 6-month visa and that many have found 9-month courses more favorable for long-term visas. Various personal experiences highlight that while some have been granted longer visas for longer courses (like a year), there’s a consensus that a 6-month course may lead to simpler options like the METV for short stays. Overall, longer training durations improve the likelihood of obtaining a DTV visa.

Hi yes six months Muay Thai course is enough for DTV if the school is registered for soft power activities.DTV needs at least six months training letter from approved Muay Thai school plus proof that school is accredited and schedule of classes. Many get DTV with six months course but make sure the letter shows start and end date and hours per week and school contact. Some consulates ask for bank proof and proof that you really train so keep receipts.METV is different type for tourism with multiple entries and does not need school. If your papers for DTV are weak some consulates may give you tourist visa instead. To avoid that make sure Muay Thai school is known for DTV support and gives full package for embassy. For list of what documents to prepare and how to avoid getting wrong visa you can read Unlock Thailand by Isla Rey on Amazon. It has DTV guide with Muay Thai checklist used by many applicants.

Ignore the haters of the group. 5 years DTV is for several categories; not just remote workers. If you meet all criteria & financial obligations & you get a nice Embassy staffer you should be okay. Good luck.
It truly depends on where you apply from & the rules at your Embassy or Consulate. The D.C. Embassy has allowed Muay Thai & Thai cooking courses for only 6 months. Other locations have given METV from what I’ve seen on here.
I acquired my DTV visa with 6 months of Muay Thai course, which was in July.METV or DTV decision is mostly up to the person who interviews you, or checks your documents in a case where there is no interview. You should be convincing enough to give a valid reason for the need of 5 years of visa. For me, I mentioned my goals after finishing my 6 months of course during the interview. In the end of the day, it is up to the person that will make the decision. Sad but true.So go there, look in their eyes and say "I'm gonna be a fighter" with the last drop of your self-confidence.

Asking this question indicates that you already know the answer. If serious about applying, the safest way forward is to contact reputable specialist visa agents such as; Thai Visa Centre and Issa Compass.
ChirpySalamander2840 Very fair! 10,000 course fee + 10,000 baht application fee. That's 20,000 THB for a 5 year multiple entry tourist visa. Good value to you and 20,000 baht that Thailand wouldn't have got in the not too distant past of unlimited visa exempt border bounces.
DelightfulPomegranate9128 agree, DTV shouldnt be associated with Muay Thai as 5 years is ridiculous. Think METV would be sufficient for anyone training muay thai
DelightfulPomegranate9128 agree with the 9 months but as they are scrutinising DTVs compared to 2 years ago, I’d always recommend 12 months as a side of precaution.
Anonymous participant 541 you found yourself your best friend in Barnabas Collins, a frustrated old man under his real name Christopher Kilcourse who was banned already 3 times from the group for spreading false information, instigation to bribery and advising members to break the visa rules. 3 times banned and returned under various dummy profiles continuing to spread false information
Anonymous participant 541 Exactly, requirements (hence contributions) are steadily increasing. From a single dental appointment to a one month course, 3 months, 6 months and now to 9 months minimum and preferably 12. The issue with some people is that they want others to pay more. How that benefits them I don't understand?
