I would like to extend my tourist visa, how early before it runs out can I extend it?

Answer summary

You can extend your tourist visa at a local immigration office as early as 30 days before the expiry date, although Jomtien immigration may only allow extensions 14 days prior during busy periods. It's advised to visit the immigration office before the expiry date to ensure you have enough time in case of any issues.

Jomtien is no longer than 30 days before the expiry date. If it's a busy time of year, they have been known to not do it until 14 days before the expiry date.

Actually Tod, they are a very efficient fast office to deal with. If you've got your paperwork in order, then it isn't a problem there.

You can apply for an Extension of Stay at a local Immigration office for a 30 day extension of your Admitted to stay period. Can be done 15 or 30 days before the Admitted to stay date in your passport, depending on office.

Expiry date on the Visa only indicates that the visa is valid till that day, normally 3 months. If you arrive in Thailand before the expiry date you get a 60 day Admitted to Stay period stamped in your passport.
