I’veI just been granted a non O visa from London Embassy through an on line application. On the application I put my arrival date as 31st August, but the start date on the visa is 7th July and end date 4th October. I was expecting the visa to either become active on entry. This means that I would still need to get a visa agent involved as I would not have time to open and put 800k in a Thai bank account. Any advice would be appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user has received a Non-O visa with a start date of July 7 and an end date of October 4, but plans to arrive in Thailand on August 31. They are concerned about the timing required to open a bank account to meet the 800k THB balance requirement for a visa extension. Community responses clarify that upon entry, the user will receive a 90-day stamp starting from their arrival date, allowing sufficient time to open a bank account and fund it for the extension process. It is emphasized that the user must enter Thailand by October 4 to avoid the visa lapsing.

Only Date of entry is relevant for extension purposes. The date on the visa is its validity: you must appear physically in Thailand before 4th of October as otherwise the visa will lapse.
You do not need agent...you have until 4oct to fly to thailand once u enter thailand your 90days nonO will start and you will have amost 1mth to open a bank acct and seasoned your 800k even if u take longer time u still can apply for a 30days extension before u apply for the 1yr extensions
I understand you are talking about opening bank account two months prior to visa extension not the stay permit. I tried to retire in Thailand and hope I will be there soon with same visa. Ive done every thing via Siam legal. My advice is go to the agent for husle free. I love this plat form.good luck.
watch the terminology . . . . "two months prior to visa extension not the stay permit." . . . . .actually, the stay permit will get extended for one year, not the visa. The initial 90-days visa will expire upon entering Thailand and cannot get extended !
the first time I looked at "visas" many years ago ( 14! ), I was a bit naïve about the validity of visa and permitted stay. Mostly because people call their "entry/permitted stay" the visa, which it actually isn't. At least people can now come on pages like this to get clarification.
