Hey everyone. So anyone have an experience with the evisa system? Does it actually go to the consulate in the country you are in? Or does it go to like a central embassy in Thailand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The eVisa system for Thailand directs applications to the consulate or embassy with jurisdiction over your current location. You must apply from the country where you are physically present. All applications utilize the same website, but they are submitted to the relevant diplomatic mission based on your stated location during the application process.

Keep in mind you cannot request evisa from another country than the one you’re physically in while applying.

how you Can proohow you can upload proof of your location when you are in a country as a tourist

Since you are in Malaysia you will have a stamp in your passport you entered the country, you get another stamp when exiting, so I think showing you only got the entry stamp should be enough proof.

Ok cool. Thanks for all the replies. That's kind of what I was hoping but was unsure.

Yes it uses the embassy for the country you are physically in. You provide your location as part of the process

I am currently in Kuala Lumpur, they say the visa process takes 2-4 weeks. I am only staying in Malaysia for 10 days. Is that a problem?

@Tom ****
That depends on where you are going to after Malaysia, officially you should not be in Thailand during the process, so there is a risk if you go there before you got approved.

I've no idea, you need to ask the embassy

the website is the same for all locations, but the application and documents you submit will be directed to the embassy/consulate you're applying at.

In theory, any application could be processed anywhere, but as far as we're told, that's not what happens.

The website has the same URL, but the questions you get are different for different countries. So some ask for flight ticket, others don't ask for the same DTV

That's very interesting and somewhat surprising!

Have you tested that? I've been back online several times, but never went past the first screen.

I'm surprised that they'd create separate downstream forms for different countries, when the fundamental requirement 'should' be the same, but it's obviously doable...

@Gerry *******
I did not test this, but since some people tell they have to enter flight number when they apply online for DTV and I did not get that question, and was succesfully approved, this is my conclusion.

Yep... that's how it's supposed to be... and afaik they do it exactly that way.

You will state your current location and it will be directed to the consulate with jurisdiction over that area.

From my understanding just showing your hotel booking is enough.
