So, my previous employer cancelled my work permit without notifying me (after agreeing on giving me a couple of weeks for my new company to make the transfer) and now i found myself in overstay situation, which i have never experienced before. My solution is to fly out to laos this sunday, get a tourist visa and abstain from work until the new non-o is issued.
My questions are
How will the overstay affect my chances of getting a new tourist visa?
How do i pay my overstay fine?

So, i go to chaengwattana tomorrow with the cancellation and the termination papers, pay the fine, get an extension denied stamp and get out of thailand on sunday
I have it now, thanks! Also, i have a friend who will join me at vientiane, from chiangmai. Will he be able to get a re-entry permit at chiangmai airport?
if you are indeed on an extension of stay you need to take the receipt your work permit is canceled along with your termination papers to the immigration office and cancel your current extension, pay any overstay fines and get a 7 day extension denied stamp to exit thailand (if you can't leave the day you cancel your extension).
Otherwise you're gonna run in problems down the road when you go to get another extension and work permit.
do you have the receipt of cancellation of your work permit and were you on an extension of stay issued by the immigration office OR on a real VISA from a thai consulate?
