Ok...just got more complicated with Malaysia closing entry to arrival at least until 31 March. My OA visa expires on 31 March and I was planning to do a visa flight and return to get 30 day visa exemption. I am an US passport holder.

Since I am in Chiang Mai, my new plan is to head up to Mae Sai to a border run. My main question is, if I cross into Myanmar on 31 March and return on the same date, will my OA be terminated properly so I can start the new process to apply for the in country O retirement visa? Not wanting to stay overnight in Mynmar unless required to properly terminate my existing OA visa.

Edited: My main issue is related to the OA visa termination... not sure what impact if I enter back to Thailand on the same date as the visa expiration date...???... ideally, I was planning to flyout before expiration and stay in Malaysia for a couple days and return on 2 April...but, that is a big question mark at this point.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is concerned about crossing into Myanmar on the expiration date of their OA visa (31 March) and whether this will properly terminate their current visa, allowing them to apply for an in-country O retirement visa. Comments suggest that to break the chain of the OA visa, the return to Thailand should occur after the OA visa expiration, which means leaving a few days before the expiration date.

Listen up people, instead of just deleting B/S off-topic comments like I just did thru this train wreck of a thread I'm gonna start muting and booting people.

STAY ON TOPIC, DO NOT HI-JACK THREADS. <- considert that your first and only warnings

You have to bounce out and back AFTER the visa itself expires to get stamped in on a NEW 30 day visa exempt entry stamp <- that's what breaks the chain of the O-A so you can start applying from the 30 day visa exempt entry for the new 90 day Non-O in country.

What is the expiration date on the O-A VISA itself?

What is the expiration date on your latest entry stamp?

31 March is the last day ... planning to leave the country a few days before that, but not return to Thailand earlier than 1 April, if Thailand is open.

31 March ... thanks for additional confirmation...I asked because I didn't want to screw things up with things happening.

Bouncing out and back on the last day your current O-A visa is valid for means that you will be stamped in for ONE day. :O On that visa

That answer is NO

Not sure I'd be leaving it to the very last day in the current climate
