I'm so confused re how to go about applying for a Visa!

Seems every story is different.

I am a 66 yr old solo traveler, now a pensioner and finally taking my first ever, dream trip to Thailand.

I grew up in Canada but now live in Israel. I have duel citizenship. The conditions for both are the same... over 30 days in Thailand, a Visa is required.

I will be in Thailand from 14.1-2.3.2027 (with return flights), which means I definitely need a Visa.

I've booked "cancellation free" hotels.

WHERE do I apply for a Visa?

WHEN do I apply?

How long before my trip do I need to apply?

HOW do I apply

WHAT is the cost?

Can the application be made online, by phone or does it need a personal meeting?

I would really appreciate any help on this topic!!

Thanks!
Answer summary
The user is a 66-year-old dual citizen of Canada and Israel, planning to visit Thailand from January 14 to March 2, 2027. They are seeking guidance on applying for a visa, including where and when to apply, how long before their trip to submit the application, costs involved, and whether the application can be done online. Comments provide insights that the user can apply for a visa online via the Thai eVisa website and that a tourist visa can be issued for a stay exceeding 30 days. Additionally, they can utilize visa exemptions available to Canadian and Israeli passport holders.

Be very careful of your dates on your application, last time I applied online I thought I would give them plenty of time. They issued the visa the day I applied basically so my first thirty days were spent in my own country. They wouldn't credit it or change the dates so I ended up having to pay 1900 baht for the last 21 days of my trip

@Robert ******
that doesn't make ANY sense, a single entry tourist visa is valid for 90 days from the date they issue it, <- that means you have 90 days to ENTER thailand on the visa and even if you entered the last day the visa was valid for you'd still get stamped in the correct amount of time a tourist visa gives you > 60 days

Robert Olsen what you say doesn't make any sense... it's always 1900 baht, you got your visa. What is the problem ?

if planning for future convenience and only shorter visits to Thailand, then consider using a Canada Passport as currently it is eligible for Thai Immigration Arrivals Automatic Channel Automated Border Control (ABC) eGates for Entry into Thailand

better note that the first time traveler is not eligible for eGate to enter, like OP

Well with a Canadian or Israeli passport you get into Thailand without a visa on the 30 day free stamp (visa exempt) program AND you could apply for one 30 day extension at the immigration office serving the area where you stay for 1900baht. So for the days you have planned to stay here, you could do that without any issue at all OR You could buy a single entry tourist visa thru the thai consulate in Israel via the online eVisa web-portal (all visas to Thailand are sold ONLY online, you don't go to consulates to apply, you do it online, pay online and they email you a PDF file that is the visa which you print out and give to the officer along with your passport when you stamp in to Thailand. You will get 60 days when you stamp in (so more than eough time to cover your planned stay of 47 days) and if you wanted to stay longer you could apply for one 30 day extension at the immigration office serving the area where you stay for 1900baht you can apply for the tourist visa any time you are within 3 months or less of traveling here (tghe visa is valid for entry for 3 months from the date it's issued) You apply via this link:

Depends on your airline!

Sandy Guise obtain a Tourist visa which give you 60 days on arrival ,as another option . In my opinion,less hassle than visa exempt which gives you 30 days and then you have to apply for an extension.

Further some airlines wonโ€™t allow you on the flight without a return ticket within the visa exempt period

@Sandy ******
to stamp IN to thailand you won't need proof of onward travel BUT

if you decide to come in 30 day free stamp (visa exempt) your air carrier might require it, check with them. If you mange to board your flight without it you'll be fine with your return flight past the 30 day mark once you get here
Tracey ******
Tracey ******
Sandy Guise yes youโ€™ll need to have a bus ticket or something to show you are leaving but then do the extension. If you can apply before hand I would do that
