Uk citizens can now apply for visa extension letters. Not sure how its going to effect us who didn’t have a flight home and we’re planning on a visa run though!

TLDR : Answer Summary
UK citizens can now apply for visa extension letters in Thailand, even if they do not have a flight home. Several users are discussing their attempts to secure these letters, with some having canceled flights or hoping for the restoration of travel options. Recent updates indicate that the list of requirements for obtaining these letters has been reduced, no longer requiring proof of a canceled flight.

Hey everyone I might have some good news. If you check the British embassy website page about covid extension (

it now seems to list a smaller list of requirements for the extension letter. And, the cancelled flight thing is no longer on the list of requirements! See attached screen grab from the above page.

Wait - do we have to pick the letter up from the Embassy? Therefore having to travel to BKK? 😅

I hope not 😂😂 I’ve applied today hopefully will receive a printable copy or they will send via post! That’s if I get one at all but etihad have now suspended flights also think there is no other choice but to give people visa extensions

Thanks for sharing. I will be interested to know if any UK citizens are successful at getting this letter even if they don't strictly meet all the criteria. For example I might try this out but I don't have a cancelled flight home. I do have a cancelled flight to Malaysia though. Maybe I'll throw in a plea to make an exception for me because of my extenuating circumstances etc. Worth a shot. Would like to know if anyone else tries something like this and succeeds.

I’d like to know how you get on too. My current extension expires on 25th April

I think Cambodia is one of the only asean block of nations still letting UK citizens in without any hassle. Getting back into Thailand is hassle though.

Would appreciate it if you report back after you try that Daryl 👍 I’m in a similar boat to you

I have a flight home in May so was going to extend. Have been unable to book onto an earlier flight and other airlines too expensive. But hoping flights by then will be back up and running so watching closely.

remember you get your 30 day REGULAR extension FIRST without the letter like people always have been able to on a 30 day visa exempt or a tourist visa entry.

You ONLY need the letter to get ANOTHER 30 day extension after that
