How can I secure my hotel booking while applying for a Thai tourist visa?

Hi. I'm coming to Thailand for 58 days from early January and need to apply for my 60 day single entry tourist visa tomorrow. I'm staying on kho Samet and will pay the owner on arrival. She has sent a photo of my confirmation booking with my name and address on ( the form you complete when you arrive) but ive read the Thai embassy in London will not accept a photo image of this and it will have to be put into a jpeg..ive no clue about technology so my nephew will be doing it for me. I'm not sure if this will be acceptable so I'm trying to book a place on Booking.com with free cancellation,then cancel it once ive applied for my visa. However,booking.com already have my bank card details Andy they are asking for my security number. I'm worried once ive booked,they won't let me cancel,even tho its says free cancellation untill January 2nd. It's costing me nearly £1,209 so obviously I don't want to take a chance. Can you please advise me what to do,I'm so stressed about it,please be kind,thank you

I book and cancel all the time with both booking.com and Agoda. Just make sure the booking says "free cancellation" or "cancel up to (date)....".  They have my credit card details but always honor their cancellation policies
