Hey all, I know this question has been covered a lot here, we have our dtv visa and ww have wise and Revolut and true money account. So we didn’t think we would need a Thai bank account since they are almost impossible to open. But our medical insurer Allianz has just told us we need a Thai bank account for reimbursement as since October 1st they no longer do it by cheque! Has anyone had any luck whatsoever of opening even a basic bank account here in Thailand on their dtv visa, either alone or through an agent? Many thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice on how to open a Thai bank account while holding a DTV visa, as their medical insurer, Allianz, requires a Thai account for reimbursement following policy changes. They mention using services like Wise, Revolut, and True Money, but find it challenging to open a local account. The inquiry highlights the frustration of expats trying to navigate banking requirements.
you recommend paying at least 5 times the price of Thailand specific insurance by getting it in your home country to avoid the reimbursement issue? Wow!! 👍 good advice. 🤣
RadiantButterfly205 I don't know your country insurance prices, but my country insurance prices for Thailand are TOTALLY OK for me. That aside, cheaper or more expensive, how would you get reimbursed if they don't allow you to open a bank account? The main point of insurances is getting the money quickly.
RadiantButterfly205 When you choose a local insurance for a tourist visa, that just does not match, so choose the correct visa or the correct insurance and your problem is solved.
RadiantButterfly205 Get a Non-immigrant visa then if your objective is to settle in Thailand... You'll get a bank account and a cheap local thai insurance.
But for your specific question, I have no idea how to solve it. Maybe visiting a bank and explaining them that you need to receive that money, and that you'll close the account later?
