TLDR : Answer Summary
To open a bank account in Koh Samui with a Non-O retirement visa, you do not necessarily need an agent. It is recommended that you first obtain a residence certificate from the immigration office. You will also need a Thai SIM card for banking applications. Major banks like Kasikorn have branches in Central Chaweng, and it is essential to have your passport, visa stamp, and proof of residence (house lease) with you at the time of application.

Go get a letter from immigration and open it yourself.

Almost every bank has a branch in Central which is right in Chaweng. As John mentioned, get a residence certificate from immigration and a Thai phone provider SIM. Take all that, your E-visa and passport and a dose of patience and politeness and you'll be fine.

You don't need an agent, passport, proof of address, and you need a thai sim to set up the app for QR codes and banking

If you have a Non-O visa you should be able to do this yourself. Go to your immigration office and get a residence certificate, go to a mobile provider and get a SIM registered against your passport, then take everything to a bank and ask them to open an account for you.
