How can I inquire about the status of my application for extension of stay due to COVID-19 in Thailand?

Possibly someone had a similar situation. We got our 'application for extension of stay due to covid-19'stamp on the 6th of April. Today we visited Samui immigration office to get the second stamp. However in the office they told us that in April there were way to many applications some which are not approved yet and that ours is one of those and is still in process. They advised us to call in a week. Is there any possibility to find out at what stage is our application and/or speed the process somehow? Surat Thani immigration office gave the same answer.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the status of their application for an extension of stay due to COVID-19, which they submitted on April 6. They were informed by Samui immigration that their application is still in process due to a backlog of applications. They seek advice on how to check the status of their application or speed up the process.

That extension of stay let you stay in Thailand until early May (or thereabouts). In early May, a new amnesty scheme was developed, which lasted until July 31, and was later extended to September 26.

Returning to the immigration office will "close" the under consideration stamp, however will not give you any more time in Thailand. You have until September 26 to either leave Thailand, get a valid extension of stay (based on whatever valid reason based on your visa). See the attached chart.
