EDIT

Hurrah 🥳, after a few days of huffing and puffing, I’ve finally sorted it. Thanks to the many people who replied, I’m so relieved 🥲.

Hello, open to ridicule here but hey OK. I'm a complete twat when it comes to anything techie but here goes. I have 643 photos in my Google account that will not back up because I have not enough storage. I have 2 phones and 2 email addresses. What / how / where do I delete photos, or emails from. Do the photos i delete get lost forever. Whats the difference between google photos and gallery. I do not want to add storage, I simply want to back up my photos and delete old photos I don't need. Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking help to manage storage on their Google account due to having 643 photos that are not backing up because of insufficient storage. They want to know how to delete unwanted photos or emails without losing important data and clarify the differences between Google Photos and their phone's gallery. They express a reluctance to purchase more storage and seek practical advice on keeping their photos backed up efficiently.

Pay for a Google One account & increase your storage space - plus the other features - money well spent

my Google photos are using 15 gb of my 15gb storage, it's what I can do to reduce this. If I delete old photos from say 2019 it doesn't make any difference to the amount of unbacked up photos but if I delete brand new ones taken this week, the unbacked up number reduces ? I'm trying to understand how to say get rid of 2g of storage space without deleting all my brand new photos. Thanks

15gb is not a big amount of storage

Even if you go through a load of photos and delete ones you don’t want to keep - you will only have to do it again every few months ( to stay under 15 gb etc )

The easiest thing for you to do is just buy extra storage from Google ( Google One is the app )

I did last month - it’s only 70b a month for 100gb

Have you reduced the photo quality to start. This should reduce the backup size.

Check your backup quality on google photos. Storage saver will make a huge difference on the amount of pictures you can save.

Get a third E-mail (or more). I prefer USB sticks and SSD drives. Have >500 Gb of data backup, none of it on Google or cloud. Only a complete house fire will erase my backup.

2 phones, 2 email address why?
Jorge ****
@John ******
he gets more storage with every E-mail account. Only uses a primary one for normal use.

Upload all your photos in your Facebook if you don't know what is USB, memory card is.
Michael ********
Check your sent box in case any big files you have sent in the past that are not needed. That normally does it for me

Consider an alternative (or additional) cloud storage service. I use MEGA. The free plan gives you 20GB of storage. Alternatively, IDrive although it isn’t free would give you 500GB of storage for only £8 per ANNUM.

Delete old and unwanted emails.

Where do you want to back them up to? If you are saying you want to copy them to your phone, but you don't have enough space, then you need to buy a bigger SD card. You could also save them to your PC/Mac.
Wylie *******
When you go to gallery you are looking at photos stored on your phone, both internal memory and memory card. If you delete photos from the gallery then you are only deleting them locally from your phone. Any backups of the photos online are still there. You don't need a huge memory card if you simply delete photos that you've already backed up.

It sounds like your issue isn't storage on your phone, but how much online storage you have. To look at how much storage you have and to free up space you need to go to the online account. For android phones you just need to open the Google One app. You can free up space by deleting photos and files or purchase additional storage. Plans start at $20/yr for 100GB.

Buy more storage from Google

Don't listen to these suggestions. Not one is viable. All old outdated ideas. DM me if you want current reliable tech solutions. A USB stick? An SD card? Welcome to the 1990s
