How can I check if my Thai work permit is still valid?

Nothing automatic indeed. Normally it is the employer who has to cancel the WP and consecutively the work visa. And he does it when he wants and you don't know when he does it! So suddenly you can be in overstay without knowing.

Eventually I had it canceled and it was not easy!

You have to cancel the work permit at the Ministry of Labor, it does not go automatically when you close the door behind you when leaving your employer.

guess she dont have accesss to that and maybe left the company and want to know if it was cancelled :-)
