I'm Belgian and I live in Belgium. Because I often go to my girlfriend in Thailand, I want to apply for a visa OA. Where can I best apply for this type of visa.

Should I get health insurance in Thailand, or is a Belgian health insurance good too?

Can I open bank account in Thailand if I get my visa?

What should I do if I return to Belgium after, for example, 5 months? Should I share that somewhere?

Who can advise me about my case? Thank you in advance.

-------------

Wie kan me raad geven omtrent mijn geval? Alvast dank u wel.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Belgian citizen interested in applying for a Thailand OA visa should apply at the Thai embassy in Belgium, as the OA visa requires specific documentation including health insurance from approved Thai providers, a police clearance, and a health certificate. For health insurance, a local Thai policy is recommended as a Belgian health insurance may not suffice. While it is possible to meet financial requirements with funds in a Belgian bank account, once the visa is obtained, one can open a bank account in Thailand. If returning to Belgium after five months, there is no need to report this to Thai authorities. Some locals suggest starting with a 90-day non-O visa, which does not require insurance, then extending it after arriving in Thailand.

You can only apply for a non O-A outside golf thailand, so you can apply while you are in Belgium. An O-A visa typically requires health insurance from an approved insurance company ( these are named on the e visa system ) like axa for example, you also need a police or criminal check and a health certificate. You will need the equivalent of 800k baht or 65kbaht monthly in a bank account but this can be your Belgium account does not need to be thai. Yes you can open account in thailand with a long term O-A visa. The first year of the O-A is multi entry with the option to get 2 years if you time your last entry. You don't need to inform anyone if you leave after 5 months or any other time

👍 If starting with the non-o visa and then extending. The initial deposit in a Thai bank must be a minimum of 400K baht for marriage visa/extension or 800K baht for retirement visa/extension

Try getting a 90days non O instead of OA in Belgium as it does not need insurance.....after you get your non O fly to thailand and open bank acct and buy insurance here in thailand extend your 90days to 1yr by depositing money into thai bank acct get a re entry permit to leave thailand it does not matter how many months you stay in thailand or Belgium and make sure to plan your yearly extensions

Look carefully at the requirements on the Belgian Thai Embassy for the Visa.

OA requires Thai medical insurance from specific carriers amongst several other requirements.

No need for bank account in Thailand. Simply deposit all your funds and all of your incomings into your girlfriend's account. That way, you will save at least five years of your life.
