TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, it is possible to obtain a 90-day Non-O visa from a Thai embassy without showing proof of funds in a Thai bank account. Applicants can use proof of funds from their own bank accounts when applying from abroad. However, for extending the visa once in Thailand, proof of funds in a Thai bank may be required, especially if the extension is based on marriage to a Thai national.

Im currently in Thailand on a 60 day free entry stamp and have been to immigration and got a 30 day extension on that . Ive booked a ticket to Laos a few days before I need to leave Thailand and will be applying to the Thai embassy in Vientiane for the 90 day non O at that time. I dont have a Thai bank account yet. I'm married to a Thai national and will be looking to extend the non O based on marriage. The more I read the more confused I get and am hoping for some solid advice from those that have been in my situation.

so far you’ve described the process correctly—when it’s time to renew the extension after the 90 days, simply present your documents and proof of funds to immigration. Make sure you open the bank and deposits immediately after you get the non O. Avoid Bangkok bank at the moment. I recommend SCB or Kasikorn. Set up a Wise account and then you can transfer money from your home country into you Thai bank for very low fees.

If you apply through the Thai embassy website in your home country for the Non-O you can show your own bank account.

Getting a 90 day non-O from a Thai embassy does not require proof of funds in a Thai bank, it just requires proof of funds in any bank.

But the extension from immigration will require proof of funds in a Thai bank.
