TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the proposed reduction of the Phuket Sandbox stay requirement from 14 to 7 nights for vaccinated travelers. While there are reports about this change, it has not yet been officially confirmed by the Thai government. Community members advise caution, suggesting that travelers wait for official announcements in the Royal Gazette as cabinet approvals can change at the last minute. Current conditions still require a minimum stay of 14 days, although there are options for a '7 + 7' arrangement, allowing for a combination of stays in Phuket and designated areas in nearby provinces.

Pilot Phase (1-31 October, 2021)

This will continue with the four popular beach resorts, which were the first destinations to reopen – beginning with Phuket on 1 July, then Surat Thani’s Samui, Ko Pha-ngan and Ko Tao on 15 July, and most recently Krabi and Phang-Nga on 16 August linking with Phuket under the 7+7 Extension arrangement. This phase will also see reopening of new designated areas in Krabi – Khlong Muang and Thap Khaek.

First Phase (1-30 November, 2021)

This will see the reopening extended to 10 other tourism-driven destinations. These include all areas of Bangkok, Krabi and Phang-Nga, and designated areas in Buri Ram (Mueang), Chiang Mai (Mueang, Mae Rim, Mae Taeng, and Doi Tao), Chon Buri (Pattaya, Bang Lamung, Na Jomtien, and Sattahip), Loei (Chiang Khan), Phetchaburi (Cha-Am), Prachuap Khiri Khan (Hua Hin), and Ranong (Ko Phayam).

Second Phase (1-31 December, 2021)

The reopening will be extended to 20 more provinces which are tourism-driven, well-known for art and culture, or border destinations. These include Ayutthaya, Chiang Rai, Khon Kaen, Lamphun, Mae Hong Son, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Narathiwat, Nong Khai, Pathum Thani, Phatthalung, Phetchabun, Phrae, Rayong, Samut Prakan, Songkhla, Sukhothai, Trang, Trat, and Yala.

Third Phase (1 January, 2022, onwards)

This will see the reopening of 13 border provinces, including Bueng Kan, Chanthaburi, Kanchanaburi, Mukdahan, Nakhon Phanom, Nan, Ratchaburi, Sa Kaeo, Satun, Surin, Tak, Ubon Ratchathani, and Udon Thani.

The CCSA has asked all concerned government agencies to prepare for the Phase 1-3 reopening. Meanwhile, foreign tourists can continue to visit the four pilot beach resort destinations under the existing conditions.

TAT will be providing more details of Thailand’s reopening plans as soon as official information becomes available.

sorry, to be more precise: it is the decision of CCSA which is lead by the prime minister. The cabinet needs to approve, but that should be just an act of formal issue.
Michael ********
@Exit *********
yes so not approved.

If you follow everything thats been happening last year or so you will see so many CSSA proposals have been stopped at this stage.

Whilst i personally think this proposal will be approved it has not been yet. So it is still a proposal until approved by cabinet and put into the royal gazette.

Even then can change last april i think was approved for seven day quarantine for vaccinated people that lasted a week until changed back
Bill *********

@Michael *******
Difference now is the immense pressure govt is getting from business owners
Michael ********
@Bill ********
Dont think so most buisness owners want local restrictions lifted in restaurants and malls and domestic tourism as priority rather than international.

I know for a fact high brand luxury items sales have surged since travel restrictions started.

My wifes family have two hotels in Singburi last year was the busiest ever.

yes it seems they are not taking a baby step and instead a full opening. im suspicious as it would instantly mute the phuket sandbox theme

No full opening yet personally think that will be early next year. People jump on social media quoting some TAT or goverment person saying stuff. Just wait

the conditions couldn’t be better and if you can’t do quarantine or the thought of a closed bar ruins your life then all the better. Looking forward to another covid winter in thailand before the masses come back.
Christopher ***********
@Jared *********
Thailand needs to get everyone vaccinated before the economy crashes.
Michael ********
@Christopher **********
18% of GDP was reliant on international tourism latest figures now with Thais not travelling and domestic tourism at all time high is that figure is 10 %.

Agree everyone needs to get vaccinated so factories can keep running instead of stop/starting. But really cannot see economy crashing.
Jared **********
@Christopher **********
they held off any significant outbreak until April and didn’t aggressively start getting vaccines until after that, and they are charging people to get the vaccine which is absolutely crazy

Also even vaccinated this doesn’t really look like it’s going away any time soon, between the variants, the boosters, and being a carrier even if you’re vaccinated. At some point it’s likely just going to have to live with it is the way it’s looking.
Christopher ***********
@Jared *********
"looking forward to another covid winter"? People are starving and committing suicide.
Jared **********
@Christopher **********
that was happening before covid 🙃

The best thing you can do when shit hits the fan is do with it the best you can, and for me that’s enjoying thailand without the throngs of tourists and less idiots 🤷‍♂️

@Christophe *********
well I for one am glad that simple paperwork is keeping an apparent sex tourist away.

Its far more restrictive for me to get into Singapore or West Africa where i work, does that make me a serf or someone that likes to earn lots of money to enjoy life.
Sad ********
@Michael *******
before stereotyping me by what I have on my profile is out-of-order. Know the fact before putting me in a category of a sex tourist. I worked in Thailand and promoted tourism. What drew you to Thailand?
Michael ********
@Sad *******
good they dont need people coming with negative attitude
Michael ********
@Lurcho *******
I dont disagree with the Pattaya mob, its not for me but its good for some people, each to there own. What i dont like is people commenting how difficult and restrictive it is. It is what it is accept it or not, dont whinge about another countries policy.
Michael ********
@Lurcho *******
Been travelling a lot in Thailand in between work costs are way down. Stayed in fhe centara at new year pre covid prices 6000 baht over new year obligatory dinner for more money. We paid 2000 baht plus we got a 1000 bsht F & B voucher.

Last night stayed in a 250 m2 pool villa 2200 baht. I dont see prices doubling far from it. Just spent two weeks in Rawai i lived there from 2000 to 2016 a lot of the restaurants prices were the same or less from the time i left.

@Michael *******
good luck for you . I’m sure the Thai people are very happy for you .

Badly written nothing is approved except the proposal which the goverment HAS to approve. So many U turns in last year from CSSA proposals that goverment have not approved. Do not take this seriously until it gets goverment approval and is in the royal gazette

Phuket has been 7 days for a while since they opened Samui and islands
Michael ********
@Tony ********
no still 14 i just completed yesterday you have option of 7 + 7 which can be 7 days phuket then 7 days certain areas in Phang Nga, Surat and Krabi province
Tony *********
@Michael *******
that's what I meant. Your not stuck in one room for the full 14 days .

So what could they possibly change in the sandbox situation
Michael ********
@Tony ********
They are proposing two tests instead of three and reducing overall time till you are free to go where you wish.

As of now if you go to other places for second seven days there are still restriction.

Like Koh Yao Noi you can only go official tours and are free to wander beaches but you cannot go into the villages and eat, you are stuck eating at official hotels and official tours.

Samui i believe you cannot rent a vehicle and go wandering around, i havent looked to much into Samui stuff as not interested.

14 at the Marriott at Merlin Beach was wonderful
Bobby ********
It's going to cabinet for approval, so as Michael has indicated, take nothing for granted until the orders have been gazetted. Cabinet has been known to change things at the last minute. I would not be amending any hotel reservations until it's totally official
Michael ********
It has been proposed nothing official yet.
