Has the non-immigrant B visa application process gone online in Thailand?

Good morning,

I remember hearing the non-imm B visa application process had gone online. I cannot see it on the Thai immigration bureau website. Does anyone know if this happened, please?

If so, what does it entail now, as obviously we would still have to leave the country if we are currently in Thailand?

I would imagine I would still have to go to the Thai consulate in Penang (or similar office). This was formerly an expensive 4 night minimum stay to lodge and receive a visa.

Also, it appears to apply for the Visa, we must be outside the country. Given that it takes 2 weeks to process the Visa, that implies that implies we must stay outside the country for 2 weeks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The non-immigrant B visa application process has transitioned to an online system through the Thai e-visa platform. Applicants must be outside Thailand to apply and must upload proof of their location, like a passport. The application is completed digitally, and payments are made in person at the embassy. Processing times are generally around 15 days. Some applicants have reported efficient processing experiences at embassies in Laos, but Malaysia's embassies have received mixed reviews.

If you need a new non B visa you have to apply via the app Thai e-visa, when out of Thailand upload proof that you are not in Thailand i.e passport - you only go to the embassy to pay

this is very confusing. Some people appear to have left the country, while the moderator says I must remain in the country until after the visa has been issued. This could not possibly be correct if you know people who left the country to get the visa

@Simon *****
You only pay in person in Laos or Cambodia. All others are pay by credit card online.

so how long would you expect to wait outside the country? It sounds like it's just one simple visit to the consulate or perhaps having to go again the next day for an interview

You wouldn't find it on the immigration website because immigration has nothing to do with embassies. All embassies now use the e-visa website for visa applications. I would avoid any embassy in Malaysia as they've gotten very difficult since switching to evisa. There have been some reports from Laos where people have submitted the application, went in to pay (for some reason you're still required to pay in person for the Laos embassies during specific hours) and then they're called to schedule an interview next day. Then they've received the visa in their email before they even got back to their hotel.

But pretty much every embassy says 15 day processing time on their websites.

Thsnks, so do people apply and then go to the consulate later? This would save a lot of money in accommodation costs on the 4 nights in Penang. I have no choice but to go there because I am in the far south

No, you must be inside the country to apply. You must upload proof that you are in the country, generally your entry stamp in your passport, and you must remain in the country until your visa is issued.

so am I not required to leave the country at all? Sorry but the evisa website is confusing and the people are saying it's very difficult to process the visa after they get to Malaysia.

Perhaps I am required to leave the country after I get the email confirming my visa

@Thomas ********
you must be IN the country where the embassy is for the ENTIRE process
